My World Is Dying And I Am A Livid Floridian

My daughter and I spent the day, yesterday, on Indian Rocks Beach with a group of friends. We had such a great time. But as we were swimming in the ocean and playing in the sand and all the fun things kids do on a beach, I couldn't help but wonder how much longer our beaches will be beautiful and enjoyable. A very fun day with just a hint of sadness in the background of my mind.

Your reply just put a knot in my stomach. AND a sad spot in my heart. But how true, how true. Glad you guys got to enjoy the beach and your time together. Have you ever been to Clearwater beach or Pass-a-grille beach? They are so beautiful. BUT, the whitest and most beautiful beaches in the world are in the Pensacola/FtWalton/Panama
City Beach areas.

As far as police iinvolvement goes, I have no info on that, but I"ll check with my daughter about the Mobile area.

As if our property values were not suffering enough, this spill has cause a terrible devaluation in Florida. Our tourism business this year is gone, there is none.. It is so bad businesses of all kinds are offering discounts on food, room, amusements, museums--just about everything. Many motels are offering refunds if the oil disrupts your vacation---the entire gulf coast needs serious help.

I have been to Clearwater beach. Not sure that I've been to Pass-a-Grille. You're right about the beaches in the panhandle. About 15 years ago I lived in Ft. Walton for a short time.

I've been trying to not listen to all the constant news about my dying world, but today it has finally gotten to me.

OMG This is so sad. NOW< they seem to think they have no place to store the oil they are managing to capture from the broken pipe so they are going to put it in a barge and burn it. They know it will be an environmental issue but oh well!!!!! I have to breathe that air. I just can't believ this crap

...if it's any consolation, BP just started controversial drilling in the Rockies in British Columbia Canada. Yeah. I guess once you destroy a giant body of water, you get to destroy mountain eco systems too.

OMG!!!!

They are going to completely destroy our world. Just the toxic fumes will kill us. This is getting to be very frightening. I am very frightened of what is going to happen to the air quality in this area when they start burning all this crude oil.

I'm beginning to wonder if there are other spills around the world, but we just don't know about it. But then who am I to ask. After all, I am just one of the many "Small" people ! Do you believe he said that even if he meant the world "Little" people it is still a really bad thing to say. It is obvious that English look down on us as a country.

I believe you're right. Even "just" this Gulf spill is gonna wipe out a good portion of the ocean waters.

Well, just off the top of my head, you've got the very recent Utah Chevron oil leak, the Singapore oil spill, and a bazillion oil spills in various places in Africa that we in North America never hear about.

Yeah, we "Small" people, the ones who fund these bastards, we gotta shut up and die quietly. It isn't the English looking down on us, it's just a rich guy saying what many rich people around the world think about us "Small" people. Imagine what the Haliburton bigwigs are calling us behind closed doors (it ain't nice!).

Another good example of how they are destroying the earth is China, where over half of the bodies of water are severely polluted from things like strip mining...

Us little people, we may be denied the truth, but we can sense what is happening...

Have you heard anything about BP taking dead animals away so journalists can't photo/write about them? There was an article in the examiner today about it.

Yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I am so pissed. I have also heard that our gulf animals are showing up in "strange places". I haven't seen anymore reference to this or where they are showing up, but the idea would not surprise me one bt.

Well, this morning the news showed a reporter demonstrating how she can DIG 6-8 inches in the sand and find more oil. The pure white sand is no longer white.

She reported that it may be necessary to remove tons of sand inorder to find clean white sand. I am absolutely sick over this and the crap keeps coming. The current wind direction is forcing massive amounts of oil onto the beach every night.

Sorry to say it but our Guf of Mexico is going to die. We now have a possible storm coming which the oil company has said will rip what's left of the ruptured pipe out of the hole and then there will be no controlling the spill untill ALL the crude oil has flowed out of the ground and the only thing we will have is a gulf of oil. OMG!!

Can you say pissed--livid--irrate--angry--sad and devestated ? ? !!!!!!!!!!!!

It is far worse than the media has let on. The dispersants that they've been using (millions of gallons) are toxic chemicals that have evaporated and come back down as a toxic rain in the area. Not only is the Gulf gonna die, the whole globe is gonna be affected.

You are right to be pissed. The oil companies own the government and so they can do what they want when they want. The government tried to stop off shore drilling for 6 months and the judge that shot them down said NO because he's an investor in the oil business. There is nobody in power that cares about the little people or the environment. Sad thing for big money, because they won't have any consumers left if they kill the earth off.

The almighty dollar may very well win this time around.

Keep Praying Please

I don't wish a storm of any kind to hurt any single person/place, but pray no storms come into the gulf for a while. Pray they are able to get this monster under control and end this nightmare before any storms hit the area.
