My World Is Dying And I Am A Livid Floridian

I'm taking time off the forum... keep on, people who care are gonna make changes! Don't give up!

I'm all the way up in Canada, and I am concerned. I love the natural world, it brings me peace. It must be horrible to witness the destruction up front. And it's useless human destruction, both the neglect of the levies in New Orleans, and in this case, BP not being environmentally responsible.

BP is allowed to stall and delay because there are no laws enforcing them to be responsible. It's sickening, but the reality is they respond only to their shareholders, and that doesn't include the people of this earth, or the fishermen, or those who also make living in the Gulf, nor to the multitude of species and ecosystems damaged by this disaster.

A good movie to check out is "The Corporation". I take a close look at my own 'democracy' here, I've also been tracking "Corporate Responsibility" laws which are still on the table here. I signed up on petitions. I keep a bit of an eye out on this.

The thing about this disaster, is that it wasn't stopped, wasn't being regulated properly in the first place. This then becomes a highly politically charged issue, in that our governments are in the pockets of corporations (via their lobbying groups and via the laws which protect corporations over actual living people and living life). It's not something that corporations nor their political allegiances they've won, are willing to let go of any power. It's all about the markets, all about maximizing profits regardless of both human and earth costs. It's inherently destructive and it seems to be getting worse. Expect more to come, I'm sure.

There's lots we are not hearing about, that don't make mainstream media, or are quickly forgetten. E.g. Look at Bhopal chemical plant explosion-- the devastation to human lives-- no corporate responsibility taken. They will not behave for the 'good' until they are legislated to do so.

But challening the system, expect victimization. There are some hardline conservatives completely loyal to Reganomics, it's ideological for them, and for the ones who are higher up, it's laughing all the way to the banks on our backs, and on the backs of the earth and all it's inhabitants. It's a truly sick game.
