saw some really cool air burst rounds out at China Lake one time. No clue what they were, but they had the interesting visual appearance of a bright explosion followed by a blacker than black implosion. Likely that was just a trick of the eyes, but what was really neat was the damned things extinguished the illumination flares they were using on the range for that night fire.

I wish I could talk about some of the neat stuff I worked on at Raytheon out at white sands...

All I will say is this, back in the day I was disturbingly good at hacking together more efficient ways to reach out and touch someone with prejudice, and even better at coming up with smart machines to do it for us. Sad part is none of those prototypes ever went into production as far as I know now. At one point upper management referred to me as "That f*cking sicko down there in the Automated Defensive systems shop."

Now that sounds like a job I should of had....:):):) Oh, don't forget.....Rail Guns DO Not Exist. :eek: I got checked out on the first Stinger....So I see this small switch and it's not in the manual. So I ask an 06 what is this switch for??? He starts for the manual and I told him I looked. He says hell if I know but I will look into it......Comes back a few hours later and says.....That switch disarms the warhead......NO SHIT. So I ask why would you want to do that? He says think about......

Anyone want to make a guess as to why????

The disarm warhead mechanism is to make the very lethal rocket propelled bullet. This makes it very handy for taking out commercial aircraft by punching a clean hole. Now, obviously the sales pitch is to make the stinger less lethal in the event a launch was made accidentally.

We have a winner!!!! Take a 747 (just for fun), put one in one of the inside engines on take off, wing comes off. I always wondered have many the CIA could not buy back???

Navy bought em all- new guidence and payload and they call it RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile). Supposedly they can pull 17G turns...

Sludge I thinking of all the Stinger's we gave to Afghanistan mujahideen when they fighting the Russians....I found an old story going back to 2001 http://www.slate.com/articles/news_.../stingers_stingers_whos_got_the_stingers.html

With my wife working as a Flight Attendant, well you can guess what I was thinking!!!
As I understand it the Stinger's of today have a 4 way lock on target, (as does the Russians) only max G turns may beat it. Our fighter planes go to computer try to beat it (pilot goes lights out from the G's) I have been told that ours and the Russians both have a 97% kill rate......Sucks to be a pilot.......Hell I guessing you know more that I do...;):D:D:D
