New diagnosis

I agree. Sadly, within my health care system (Canada), doctors need to provide a dx first and follow the treatment plan for that dx. No room in that for getting to know their patient first - so really it is based on 'first glances'.

Where I am in Western Canada it's actually the mental health nurse, which was (June 2020) followed by a phone appointment with a psychiatrist who diagnosed GAD and other disorders and suggested EMDR as treatment.
No one has ever made a diagnoses except my T, and its fact based evidence after years of treatment, not guesses.

Not sure where you are at in Western Canada, and am not inviting you to out yourself, but I have heard that Alberta's health care system (especially for mental health) is ace. I am in Ontario. We are different here.

Not ace exactly. Finding the in door and dealing with the health care portion is still lost in the 50's, and you have to find your own way as far as Therapists. I got super extra lucky. My first T moved, and they can't recommend each other but she strongly indicated I may want to check out my current T. I interviewed a couple and my current T stood out from the crowd.

I think interviewing is important. I let them know what they were getting into with me as a patient and one of the ones I talked to said it would be a stretch of her skills.
