Yeah man, the quote I saw is this.

Rock bottom is solid ground, and a dead end is a place to turn around.

I had completed a PTSD course in 07, but it still meant shit to me. I hit the pills, the booze and the pot. I had to hit rock bottom too. I joined this forum Christmas 09. I still have heaps to do and will always learn.
I even learn from new guys to this forum. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone is trying to battle the beast.

This is a great place to learn from each other.

Thanks Anthony

Cheers again and great quotes to think of at this time. Been to the docs and sorted my tablets and some CBT. I know what your saying about the kick up the arse. I tried hanging myself nearly a year ago and had been on tablets and crisis team review but stopped taking my tablets thinking i feel fine and dont need them. The result was a huge argument with the wife in front of the kids and then mother and sister in law (both of which want nothing to do with me now, so every cloud eh?) me the kids and the wife are now fine but have to see the sister in law daily on the school run which makes my heart go so fast i think im gonna keal over.

On the plus side since then life seems so much clearer, just hope this is to do with de-stressing my life rather than the beast playing tricks on me. Sometimes hard to seperate the two....

I have this dream of digging a hole, putting plywood on top and dirt on top of that. lay down inside, close the covered wood top and just disappear completly.
I tried to off myself when I was just out of the Marines. Drank over a gallon of booze and put a knife through my right arm and stabbed my chest with a 8 inch combat knife. Family found me a few seconds later and saved me. I think we all suffer from the get it over with syndrome.
Bad way to start out a hello but there you go. Hi. :)

I told the people at the PTSD center when I was on a mood disorder course that I found solace in grabbing some hand weights and sinking to the bottom of the swimming pool I used to own.
I had thought about tying a heap to me with zip ties. I would never get them off in time.

Anyway, there is way too much to live for now. You just have to find it.

Hello mate belated, from another Brit who isn't really ignorant just missed your posts while I was sciving off somewhere.
This place will help. CBT is well worth the effort. And it helps the de-stressing too. Welcome.

Hey CPLg83,

Sorry I missed you as well. I was off dealing with the Beast the last couple of weeks myself. Welcome.

Had combat ptsd for 10 years now been through hell but am managing it much better now , best thing ive done to help is get the right meds , am on seroquel and mirtazapine now so i can calm down and get some sleep , also as im not in the army anymore i got a job working nights in the local supermarket ,any night work i would reccommend i sleep better during the day , i feel safer for some reason,
Also tell your wife you love her EVERY day and that you appreciate her support and talk to her about your feelings , shes not phsycic and people in general dont understand mental illness and its just as hard for her to see you suffering.
Oh and go for a war pension you deserve it , you have been injured in combat just as much as any physical injury.
Good luck , sometimes you have to reach rock bottom before you can get up again.

Hi all, been suffering with Ptsd since 2004 to the point where it now seems to have taken over my life and was just looking for any tips/ advice/ lifelines anyone can throw my way.

Cheers
the video that was posted on this site may not help many but it gave me a new perspective as to why i am the way i am. the red button makes it easier for me to explain to my daughter that to stop doing something annoying. i just say you are getting close to the red button. and she stops. maybe you will find something in it that may help you. or within the writings of us other freakazoids who were tossed into the cold hard world alone. key word ....alone. so if you feel alone, yell for one of us ok? and welcome

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome. Im an ex infantry soldier whose been out the forces for 6 years now after serving for just over five. Served with British Army in Iraq most notably during the 2004 uprising where the shit hit the fan. Never really recovered from the Telic tour and signed off not long after. My life always seems to be on the edgeas i just dont know when the rage is gonna take over, only sleep til 3am every morning and lie there mulling over life as i dont want to wake the wife and kids so this has become the norm which is how ive ended up on here actually. Seemed to have pushed so many people away but at the back of my mind i think ill sort it when im feeling better but obviously this has never come. Tried counselling and currently on meds but whats anyones insight into CBT.

I just Keep looking for the reset button.
we were trained to be "broken" so there is no reset button because we were never supposed to either live or get out of the forces. understand? we need to relearn how to be civilians. imagine that? the lowest people on our totem pole we are expected to become again. there has got to be a different way. maybe set up places all through the world where we can go to be soldiers/marines.....again. where family exists for us, home exists for us. unlike the civvie home and family we normally think of. oh i know this is all a dream and i will stop. personally, i think that after we are prepared to get out we should all be sent to a unit to be deactivated before we are placed back into the civvie world. that would make major sense, but whoever said governments made any sense?

mine isn't as dramatic but i have multiple attempts to die since i got out. i have had CPR due to my heart stopping once. then AED due to it stopping a second time that night. then a coma. i've cut and watched the deep red blood swirl around in the hot water until it found the drain. i tried to run my van off of a bridge and into the back of an 18 wheeler (but funny thing...he was too fast for my van to catch up to haha) so i watched as a cop crashed into a wall and a taxi crashed into a cop and went home and drank with a couple of homeless dudes who became pretty good friends with me. this is only the tip of my attempts. no need to tell every skeleton i have in my dark dank closet. LOL
