New Here
Hello all, I am happy that I found this forum. I am a survivor of a motorcycle accident in 2006 that resulted in the amputation of my leg. Since then I have struggled with PTSD and self esteem issues. I have tried to get help in the past but I was never in the right place to accept help. I have finally seen how my PTSD is effecting my family and am ready to get help. I have started the process and will hopefully be on the road to recovery very soon.

Hi @Leggo76 and welcome to the forum.

My big sister lost her leg (and ultimately her life) due to cancer many years ago.
I recall just how difficult it was for her.

I hope you are able to see an optimistic future despite your disability. PTSD Stinks - but therapy can help you through and help you see the sunshine again.

Hi leggo76 and welcome, firstly I would like to say well done for coming on this forum I'm confident you will recieve lots of support . Unfortunately you have gone through horrific trauma and learning to cope with the amputation is hard enough with Ptsd being added to mix and to top it family and friends who are finding your ptsd difficult. There are different types of treatment and therapy available but please make sure it's the right one for you , sometimes that can be challenging in itself. Your self esteem and confidence will start being rebuilt once you start understanding how to deal with Ptsd and your amputation. I think you are amazing for having the courage to come on here and talk about it, really well done x I wish you all the best x

Welcome to the forum. Sometimes it takes a while to be in a place where you can accept any sort of help. Congratulations on starting the journey.

Welcome to the forum! That first step of admitting you need help is huge. And coming here to open up, also huge.

I would recommend chocolate right about now.

Welcome to this community! It's a great place where I'm confident you'll find support and helpful information.

A symptom of PTSD is loss of self-worth/ self-esteem, which can be expressed in a variety of ways. This makes your situation more challenging because your change in body image does double damage in this area. Reaching out for help by posting here takes courage. That seemingly simple act helps solidify a healing foundation for your continued recovery.

It's fortunate that you have been diagnosed with PTSD. Sadly, the medical community too often focuses solely on the physical aspects of healing, neglecting the emotional and spiritual injuries. People suffer too many years without help. I'm curious to hear more about your story if you're in a place where you're ready to share.
