I've had symptoms of PTSD since I can remember. I survived multiple forms of abuse from birth to age 24, and have had a lifetime of invasive medical treatments. As a child, the treatments and surgeries were terrifying and overwhelming. Pain control was hit-or-miss, mostly miss. Now that I'm an adult, I have better coping skills, and the ability to refuse medical treatments. I have multiple disabilities and rely on medical technology to sustain my life.

I signed up for this forum because I want to meet others with PTSD, and perhaps to learn new coping strategies.

Welcome, this is a good place. No snobs, egos, or or other people to make you feel bad, just a lot of support. What's your story? Mine is simple, dysfunctional family (alcoholism and such) and all the baggage that goes with it. Some violence and lot's of threats of it, pulling my father off of my mother and other burdens placed on the oldest son of a screwed up family. It took me 50 odd years to find out I belonged here. Your turn.

Welcome to the forum redflashlight. There are lots of great articles on the wiki section - they helped me and others understand what we are dealing with and really put aside alot of guess work of what PTSD beast is all about. You'll meet many great people, some will become your friends. On the forum section, you will see all the sub sections of discussion. Take your time to get around, leave a post or two and you'll be getting answers along the way.

Hello and welcome redflashlight,
There are a lot of people here with years of knowledge and experience to share. I'm fairly new but have found it an amazing place to be. Good luck to you.

Hi Redflashlight,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. It is nice to meet others that "think" the way that you do, and it definitely makes one feel less alone. Just sorry that we all had something happen that put us here, but we are a great bunch of survivors.

Take care.
Debbie

Thank you for welcoming me. :) My story is that both of my parents had been abused and neglected by their parents, who had been abused and neglected by their parents, and so on. My dad had mental illnesses and drug/alcohol addiction. My parents divorced when I was 2, and I lived with my mom. Violence, violation and inescapable pain have, for better or worse, permanently changed the way I think and react.
