Hi- I'm a 48 year old, in treatment for childhood sexual abuse,rape as a teen and adult, and psychological abuse from a parent, with a diagnosis of complex ptsd as well as a disscociative disorder. I've been married 22 years, have kids, two in college and one in 8th grade. My husband is supportive. I use a service dog for my ptsd and it helps quite a bit. I also take a variety of meds to help with depression and panic. I've been hospitalized in a trauma specialty hospital for six weeks, which helped quite a lot, as well as multiple local hospitalizations for suicidality. While I've been in therapy for years for depression and anxiety, it was only when I began to address my ptsd and dissociation that I became unable to work and fairly symptomatic. I can't leave the house without my husband or service dog, for example. Prior to that I had a pretty intense and rewarding career. I'm happy to have found this forum, as I have only one friend irl who knows about the reality of my diagnosis, he's someone I met in treatment.I get disability (in the USA) and luckily my husbands job provides insurance for therapy. That's about all I can think of....Laura

Hi laurainalameda x I'm so sorry to hear about your traumas ? I think your an amazing person and very brave to have suffered so much and still be able to talk about it . You have definitely come to the right place for support, it's an amazing forum x for me the only actual place I feel safe and am able to be truly honest about my feelings, good luck on your journey to recovery and here if you need us x

I'm new here, I have been in therapy most of my life for depression and abuse issues but after a series of psychotic episodes and subsequent hospitalizations in 2001, I was diagnosed with cpstd and other mental illnesses which have been fluid and confusing so I'm really only here to discuss my cpstd. I've just come out of a 9 month long severe depression (not able to get out of bed with SH, SI, etc type) to the point where a medication change was finally found to help with that. I am currently experiencing triggers tipping off flashbacks and nightmares all over again while I desperately attempt to get back into trauma therapy again. Thanks for the add!

@laurainalameda. Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately there are times when issues begin to get addressed that the increase in symptoms does overwhelm. It can get worse before it gets better, but that increase should be short lived and a therapist should have given you the tools and made sure you were proficient in using before continuing.

I hope you find the information and support here beneficial to your healing and that you can reclaim more of your life each day.
