Federal Civil Rights legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), defines a Service Animal as a dog, or in some instances a small horse, individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a disabled person. The tasks must be directly related to one's disability. A Service Dog is a working animal, not a pet. There is no "certification" standard or process, nor are ID cards or identifying garb required under the terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
