I saw a new therapist for sensorimotor psychotherapy and it was positive. She could see that I was distressed and stopped me lots for grounding exercises. I plan to see her weekly as a private patient as I have been discharged from the NHS due to being too fearful to process the trauma. I am hoping this different approach might help me.

I really like the somatic approach (I don't do specifically sensorimotor, but it is body psychotherapy, lots of Somatic Experiencing). It helps me not feel totally overwhelmed and trapped with what I cannot process verbally. Also I have learned grounding stuff, self-soothing, and how to just be in my body. Super important. I think it's really great you found another approach instead of giving up. I think even good therapists can forget (or not realize?) how much we need to feel safe in our bodies...and that can take a long time before processing trauma, but it helps us begin to feel better in our day to day lives too, even if we haven't yet been able to process everything. Good luck with the new approach....sounds positive!
