To feel different and not understand why I am unable to sleep a full night or concentrate on task without causing anxiety and loose my temper to the drop of a pin has been one heck of journey of 14 yrs and continues.

I was a commercial underwater worker or Commercial Diver. Loved the job and excitement, but after the barge sank in the middle of a Hurricane all changed. The ocean that I loved has turned to a fear of water. Unable to understand "why" this is so.

On Oct 15, 1995 all had changed.

First time I heard of PTSD by a doc I thought it was some kind of simple illness. Like to flu or something. What did I know?

Anyways. that is where my story begins. Now, live in the high desert away from water and still live in a semi-populated area.

just breaking the ice.

So glad you found this forum to let you know you are not alone.

This disease is by no means simple or easily managed. There is a great bit of information on this site to educate you on the symptoms and management of the triggers.

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost a reason to continue diving. I'm by no means an expert, but can say that the times I have been diving, I was at such peace and full of happiness. I also can say that I have a huge respect for what mother nature can pull on ya, and am sorry you had to experience such trauma. I understand your need to move to the desert.

I was born in the desert (Tucson, AZ) and really miss the unique ecological atmosphere that it embraces. My husband once told me that there was no life in the desert. I took him to the Grand Canyon and proved there is life and lots of it. Then I took him snow skiing and he said, "I thought there weren't any mountains in the desert"! HA HA HA.

Please know you are welcome here and together we can learn how to live life with PTSD.
