New Here
Hi everyone, just signed up here. I've been told I most likely have PTSD but have not been formally diagnosed.

I have read alot about codependecy and certainly fall into that category. I've always felt that I was very 'unique' but it wasn't until recently that I realized that was simply a nice way of saying 'messed up'.

I've also become aware that I have right around zero emotional intelligence.

So I think that's enough information to start with. I'm looking forward to learning and growing and hopefully I'll be able to give something back to the forum. :hello:

Welcome to the forum LostNFound.

You were talking about Emotional Inteligence... I read parts of this book. The way it talks about PTSD made me feel like PTSD is a emotional disability.

Welcome..........
In my experience, when I was finally diagnosed and read about PTSD it was a no-brainer. Nightmares, hallucinations, depression, triggering (although I didn't know that was what was happening, I just thought I was going insane---which it turned out I was!).

But I knew there was something wrong for a long long time.......just tried to tough it out I guess.

I think if you have experienced the hypervigalance, anxiety......adrenaline rushes........all the symptoms and, of course, the whopper of whoppers..........the huge emotional pain, anger and rage. Well, you know whether or not you have PTSD for sure.

Hope you don't but you are welcome here anyway........

Hi,

I'm new here too, and I've already found it very validating to say my truth and have others respond in a way that tells me they understand.

People who don't have it truly have a difficult time understanding. I myself have lost friends because of it, but the ones who have remained pass the Loyalty Test with flying colors!

Take care of yourself and keep reaching out. Don't give up on yourself no matter what.

Thanks for the warm welcomes.

I definately have the PTSD symptoms. The tough part for me in identifying with PTSD is that when I read other people's stories they have been shot, raped, kidnapped, etc., very traumatic events. I myself did not go through anything so drastic, I had a very angry, controlling, critical father that only hit me once or twice but mostly scared the hell out of me with his rage. Only in the home of course, outside the home he was completely spineless, Narcisstic Personality Disorder in my opinion.

Just becoming aware of these things has been a big help. There is ALOT of information here!

Melody Beattie's books (Co-dependent no more) and others might be helpful.

I imagine that PTSD and co-dependency easily occur together, they do with me.
