So today I saw my therapist and told him about my vivid night terrors and sleeping 2-4 hours every night for the past few months. Discussed a lot of deep stuff. It was suggested that a talk to my doctor about the possibility of being prescribed relaxing/sleeping pills for night. But also that I might benefit from ssri medication. I'm going to have a serious think about this over the next few days weighing up the pro's and cons. Hoping to hear other people's experiences good and bad, so I can make an informed decision.
Thanks :)

Hi @Day_by_day
I was in the same situation about 2 years ago. I could barely function and the insomnia was pretty bad. I went for Prozac and it helped me a lot with sleeping. I sleep regularly now. I started on 20mg and then increased to 40mg. The only side effect I have from it is that I don't get erection that easily nor does it last. I am willing to live with it, because before that I was acting out promiscuously.

I had to rumble with the "medicine only masks the symptoms does not solve the problem" or "antidepressants are overprescribed", etc.

I am planning to start lowering the Prozac in few months little by little to see how that works cause I've done a lot of work in therapy using EMDR.

Bottom line, I recommend it.

I struggled with sleep a lot when I first got PTSD. I found I slept better during the day than at night because the day had more distractions to keep the awful thoughts from entering my head as I got ready to sleep.
SSRIs were super terrible for me so I used Ativan temporarily just so I could get a little sleep as I went to therapy to work through all the crap. It helped me a lot.
