Hi Bliss and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear about the house fire. I am so glad you have your family all safe and sound. This is a real supportive community and you will get so much being here. It is so nice to meet you. Check out the chit chat section for lighter stuff that is easy to handle and a good way to get to know people here. Hugs.

Hello gizmo,

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will definately check out the chit chat section. In my path to recovery, I have stumbled upon past traumas and, initially thought of a support group. I figured this would be a good way to start. Everyone has been truly kind.

I think what your saying is right. I always keep myself busy around Christmas as I can get depressed.

I was just having this conversation with someone the other day. It seems as is the holidays only magnify aspects of your life both positive and negative. Unfortunately, the holiday season is meloncholy for many because, we are inundated with the idea of people having perfect families and lives- when in actuality, no one does. Don't beat yourself up about how you feel.

Hi Bliss, I had a house fire too, mine was the week before Thanksgiving, the 19th to be exact. All my pets died in it, and half of the whole school go to watch it burn, (There's a big field between the school and where the house used to be.) The only reason I survived was because I was at school that morning. I just thought I would try and find someone to connect with.

Interesting that you addressed the smell os smoke- it sends a feeling of panic down my back. I truly appreciate your honesty, it has brought me comfort.

One interesting part of that is that I actually smell smoke better than most people, or at least seem to. When patrolling after the recent bushfires, I would regularly smell that "hot" smoke (as opposed to "dead" smoke) smell before and better than anyone else in the vehicle. Kind of useful skill right there. Another useful tip, and one I personally have long utilized (although doing it without therapy is kinda dangerous), is always attack that which you fear, never, ever turn and run from it, or it will never leave you.
