Hi everyone
Just joined so thought I'd introduce myself. I was caught up in a terrorist attack and now suffer from ptsd, anxiety and a bit of depression.
Hope u guys are all doing well

Happy Saturday, amigo. May the sun always shine on your face, and the wind always be at your back. May your horse be sure of foot, and your mules obedient and peaceful.

That's Rocky Mountain Yankee for: Welcome, friend. :)

Welcome, Alibongo. I'm sorry for what you've been through, but glad you found us. This is a great community and there's really nothing you can share about your experiences that others won't relate to in some way, shape or form. No matter the triggering event -- and there are tons -- we pretty much share many of the same symptoms and can all relate to feeling unsafe, harmed, threatened.

Welcome Alibongo. It is amazing the way our brains work to protect us in times of fear. This site has offered me suggestions for helping to retrain my brain in a way. While I will always have ptsd, it can be manageable and I can learn to help myself to function better when presented with fear. Search through the forums. Chances are you will find someone who has been through something similar and can relate.

Thanks I'll do that. It's hard to get my head round the fact that although I will hopefully get better it's going to be with me forever-makes me really angry

Anger can be healthy. It can encourage you to take the necessary steps to heal. I know what you mean though. I still get angry about it when it affects my interactions with others or limits me in any way. I then get angry at my abusers for causing the ptsd in the first place. Then I realize it is my life and I already have given them too much power. They don't deserve any more if my time and energy.

Coming to stage of acceptance of having ptsd is hard and sometimes, like stages of grief, I have to go through the other stages (denial, bargaining, anger, and depression) before I can accept it again.
