The sportsbook system installed here last time had all sorts of personal implications for members, whilst used by others for entertainment betting and having some fun with virtual currency, others didn't find it fun having anything sports betting related. Sooooooo... to support NFL each season only, as the site is predominantly US members, I am going to activate a pickem system instead solely for the NFL season, then close it again. This isn't betting even for entertainment purposes, it is purely social and fun.
There is no betting, it is a pickem. Which means you choose your teams to win and its all a points based system on who wins or loses. No betting, no virtual currency, na da! There is a weekly winner based on points only, which means nothing other than that person/s picked better. There will obviously be overall winner/s for the season.
This opens up some social interaction for everyone, as betting is non-existent and the system is purely fun to choose who you think will win, and compete for overall weekly and cumulative points.
Social fun is just that, and those who look further into it, well... just don't participate.
I will have some prizes within the season, both weekly and overall to increase the fun and competitiveness a little... there's nothing wrong with a bit of sportsmanship and poking one another's teams in sport. It's all in good fun and with the theme of watching sports and supporting your favourite team.
The overall prize will be lifetime premium memberships for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places (ties inclusive where applicable (first three)). For anyone who has a premium membership and they win, they can cancel it and I will change it to free lifetime, thus it is open to anyone. For those who already have a current level lifetime premium membership, then you get nothing if you win... other than feeling good... and those who have the older premium lifetime membership, you will get upgraded to the current one instead.
I will throw in some occasional weekly prizes as well for those who play throughout the entire season. In other words, those who stop because they can't win overall, will not be eligible for weekly prizes when offered.
Kick-off isn't until Sep 5, so the system will be installed and ready 48hrs prior to that. You will be able to make weekly game choices after that well in advance, as the weekly games are listed for the entire season already.
