Saw therapist, many of them, when I lived in Memphis and atlanta. None of them had any PTSD experience in those days. Now I live in the sticks and it is 200 plus round trip to the nearest large city that might have a PTSD specialist. My meds sometimes fail me. I am willing to try therapy again but I can't afford the time and money for a trip of that distance. I guess no one can really help me. Just venting a little. Thanks.

I therapist does not specialize in PTSD or Trauma, but she is helpful to me a lot. She says she uses several different forms of therapy in her practice, so I am glad of that. I only go once a month, that is all I can afford and all I need really. Something always comes up to talk about. I don't think I have ever sat in her office with nothing to say! She has a good way of getting me talking and she is helpful. I am grateful.

There are a number of therapists who know about trauma and do therapy online. Insurance an sometimes cover this if the distance to in person treatment is too far. If you have Medicaid, federal law requires that Medicaid provide transportation (taxi or etc) to all needed treatment, including a PTSD specialist, even if 200 miles away.

Therapist are not an absolute answer. Consider other resources you might have available because there are other people like you. You just can't stay quiet.
Besides, think of the $$,$$$.00 you'll save.

Not interested in any remote help. Maybe there is some group closer to me. About twice a year I ask my psych if he has heard of a new PTSD counselor in the area. Always says no. To be honest

therapy has never helped me. But like I said I never saw anyone with PTSD experience. I need to do something before I lose it.

You said 200 miles to the largest big city but that doesn't mean there isn't a trauma therapist in between. Can you ask your doc if he could research the closest trauma type therapists? There may be a straggler lurking around.

Try checking out the specific trauma modality websites. ..like emdr or somatic experiencing. I'm sure there are dozens of modalities that offer certification and list therapists on their websites. The psychiatrist probably doesn't care to keep up with that. Guarantee you there are Ts near you with trauma training.
