Offline Chat Group. Who's Interested?

Does anyone else ever stand in a long line, or wait for the bus, or take a walk in the park and feel really lonely, and decide to chat with someone on your phone? Except there is no one to check in with and chat to. Chat about just anything fun and even trivial. Or deep.

...Those moments when I feel so disconnected and alien, and just need to see a friendly emoji to let me know I'm still a part of this world...

Would any of you be interested in starting such a group with me? It could be a Hangouts group, or via another chat medium. Jabber?

I'd encourage you to remember a few things. One, anyone can be anyone on the Internet. Off-site connections do develop between users here, as individuals get to know one another over time. But even then: caution should be exercised.

MyPTSD has a chat box that people can use.

If you would like to make other kinds of arrangements, I think it's fine to ask for interest - but please take the actual planning to PCs.

There have been meet ups. There was one this time last year in London that I'd hoped to get to (i abandoned going to it when I started a new job 250+ miles away)

By all means, if you are confident that you have got someone worked out enough to communicate off forum, do so. Just be careful, as you should be in any context

Sure, abuse is rare, but all too many here are from the minority of people who ended up on the receiving end of that rarity. It can and does happen.

A yahoo or hotmail account specifically for such contacts might give you an added level of protection, then if things get funny, you can just abandon the account without the hassle of telling everyone else what your new address is ( its probably an offence in some places to incite you to open an account with false name and address, so I'll just say that accidental typos are so damned easy to make...)

I have met forum members - and spoken to others on the phone. They've all been absolutely amazing people.

@Anarchy got it right :tup: - sorry for using an abbreviation there. Private Conversation (PC) is something every member has access to. If you hover above the envelope in the top R corner of the site, you'll have an option to start a new conversation. It's a way to discuss things with other members with privacy.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! Salad, I'm up for either private convos or hangouts.. That doesn't share our info either. Obviously everyone's safety is priority! :)

I´m not sure about Hangouts because it´s Google owned and they´re not particularly famous for privacy, but I can see how that would be an option (because a lot of people use it).

But private conversations on here are fine with me.

There are also safe alternatives on smartphone, like Signal, that encrypt your messages. (You can see messages in normal plain text but they get stored in an encrypted way on their servers, I believe). It´s on the Play Store & on iOS. Personally I´d encourage using that rather than whatsapp & hangouts.

Check out the forum rules ( you did realise about the forum's organ harvesting policy before you signed up, didn't you? )</ tongue in cheek>

In Salad's case, Im not entirely or exactly sure why. She seemed spirited and up front, but certainly didn't strike me as a being troll.
