Hi Firemedic1329,

Folks whose careers have followed your line of work (IMO) don't receive enough kudos for what they do. So, first and for most, thank you for your service! Two of my three sons are firemedics. Using resources to deal with, and heal from, the traumatic work situations has been very helpful for both of my sons, as well as learning meditation -

As you can see from the previous posts already, we're a rather friendly bunch.

Welcome to the forum - take what you need, and thanks again for doing what you do.

Kind regards,
Drew

Welcome to the forum, FM. I hope you find the support you deserve here.

I know a firefighter who has PTSD from his experiences. One of his stories is particular dissuaded my fiancé from becoming a firefighter. I can't imagine what you have been through and seen.

I know that grief in emergency services is not as widely accepted and discussed as it could or should be. But I want you to know that if you're into reading about such issues, there are resources out there that study this. One book in particular is called Surviving the Fire.

I wish you the best in your journey to heal.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I just became a paramedic 6 months ago and am already thinking about quitting because of situations like these. Any advice? I am constantly in fear that I am going to actually hurt a patient. Not sure if it's an incompetency or confidence issue. I'm just not getting enough reward out of the 'good'calls to balance the 'bad calls. Don't want 10 years to go by and still be in this position. Any advise from a pro medic? Does it get better??

Have you tried an excercise program to help with you situation. It probably sounds cheesy but I have done Crossfit and the supportive group atmosphere + physical rewards really helps with those long mentally draining days. Just a thought. Peace to you.

Hi,
I'm new here. I've been a medic for 16yrs with the last 7yrs working in a big city EMS system. I was involved in 2 major incidence just 6 days apart and have now been diagnosed with PTSD 7 months ago. I still can't wrap my head around this. For everything I've experienced in 16yrs I thought I was ok. Now I'm in therapy, on medications coming out the whazo and have completely lost who I use to be . I'm glad I found this site and hope learn more and know that I'm not alone.

I'll echo what Nomedic said. You are definitely not alone.

Fire medic hasn't been in the site in almost a year and a half.... An old thread was bumped up.
