Hi Celt
How are you just read your post. I too am an ex British Soldier who suffers from Combat Stress, and I was also sexually abused as a child by my Step-father. And I took that baggage into the Army with me, and it caused me to have a drink problem, yes I was a drunk at 17. But my Platoon Sergeant caught me one day totally waisted, and I told him what was wrong. To his eternal credit he could have charged me on the spot. But he took me into his home and dried me out. I repaid him by working my socks off, and when I got posted after my training to The Cheshire Regiment, I became the only Jock in the Regiment, which I was very proud about.
Where in the UK are you from, I'm from Irvine on the West Coast of Scotland, 40 miles south of Glasgow.
Tell your husband that he is not alone in this if he wants to talk to me he can through this forum. I would be delighted to hear from him.
Also there is a organisation in the UK called Combat Stress. Which deals with ex-servicemen and women who suffer from this. There are 3 centres one in Surrey, one in Ayrshire and one in Shropshire. I attend the centre in Ayrshire at least twice a year, and it helps me. Get your GP to refer your husband to a Psycologist and the Psycologist will then refer him to Combat Stress. After that normally about a month. A Liason Officer from your local Combat Stress centre will come out to your house and have a chat. Then its just a matter of waiting until they have a place vacant. He will stay for a week at a time, for twice a year.
Does your husband get a War Disablement Pension. Contact SSAFA as well and they can help out as well. Unfortunately I've been waiting nearly a year for my Pension they can't fimd my records, (Typical). SSAFA can also help with removal costs and furniture as well. They are really good that way.
Good Luck and Best Wishes
