High winds and heavy seas. We lost a section of fence in the backyard. We didn’t lose power. All these other towns did. Our Dunkin doughnuts was out, big cable down off the pole. I didn’t think it was that serious till I saw most of the traffic lights not working. (and most of the rest of the Dunkin doughnuts closed). I went in BJs and Whole Foods. It was weird in both. All the schools are closed. I think I’ve seen tree damage or wind damage at this level? But this is severe.

Banff Townsite from Sulfur Mountain. River is the Bow river. Looking across the river (lower left) you can see right down Banff Avenue where all the hotels are. Near the bottom on the right is the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel and on the right stretched along the river the golf course. Across the river and slightly left on the backside of Tunnel Mountain is the Banff Centre for the Arts. The view is looking Northeast. Taking the highway near the top to the right (East) leads to Dead Mans Flats, Canmore, and Calgary. To the left, Lake Louise, Rogers Pass, and Yoho Park.

Schools are closed here again for the third day. I tried to go somewhere yesterday and gave up and went home. Most traffic lights are still out and businesses closed . Three or four neighboring towns are without power. A friend and her foster kid were over yesterday because they have no heat. We were real lucky and never lost power at all.

We had to get away from everything. One of our autistic daughters has a very hard time when things go sideways, like the whole world being shut down for three days. It’s hard on all of us. The zoo was nice, deserted and cold but there’s certain charm in that. We bundled up and brought lunch.

had to make two posts : )
