Let me tell you a little story about the New Year's Eve when I was 8 years old. As usual, my parents were having a New Years Eve party and as usual we kids had to have our rooms spotlessly clean, just in case anyone of their guests might happen to pop into one of them by accident.

The table of drinks, with bottles of every kind and a huge punch bowl was set up in the middle of the bar area. It was all easily accessable to me and I noticed that daddy, who prepared the drinks section, had put out a huge bowl of my favorite beverage, Hawiian Punch, out there with all the rest! Yippee!!!

Well, I grabbed one of the cute little punch cups and somehow managed to pour myself a cup of it, carefully manuvering the ladle without spilling any! I drank a swig of it and noticed it tasted a little different, but I figured that didn't matter, it still tasted pretty good. So I drank that one and got me another. And another. And another... as the night progressed.
At some point I didn't feel quite right, but I had no idea what was happening to me.

I decided to lay down. Well, there is one other thing about me that is odd, I don't generally throw up. All my life it has been this way, so, frankly, I didn't. My eyes started rolling up and down in their sockets and I could not stop them. I was too drunk to even realize that this was odd, nor was I scared. I think I kind of just lay there with an, "Well, what'a'ya know about that." kind of matter of fact thought on my mind...

I did not have a headache the next morning that I recall. Though I may have felt a bit "out of sorts" or something.

Moral of the story: IF YOU HAVE KIDS AND YOU ARE SERVING DRINKS TONIGHT, BE SURE THE KIDS ARE PROTECTED FROM SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE HAPPENING TO THEM. DON'T LET THEM SUFFER ALCOHOL POISONING OR DEATH!!!

We stopped going out on New Years a long time ago. We don't have parties here either. If we have anything, it is just champagne. The kids get sparkling cider, or juice(even at the age of 14 & 16). I think this is the first New Years in quite a number of years that my husband isn't working. So that will be odd.

It scares me to think of the number of people who will be reckless out there just because it is a holiday!
