Psych Wants Me On Remeron. What Are Your Thoughts?

30 mg is an insane dosage! No wonder you were a zombie! I am supposed to be on 7.5 and I can't even take that so I cut it in half.

The sedating part of remeron (now you are going to get a kick out of this) is the same ingredient in Benedryl! It's an antihistamine. So your taking the same thing! hehe... except for the mood altering ingredients that is.

I do hope your okay. I've been very bleak myself lately. Take care my friend.

Umm Imovane and Ambien I believe but I could be wrong. Imovane works great.

Not sure about Ambien, though I have heard of it, but YES thanks Bec, Imovane was the name of the other one and yes I agree it works well but is expensive! Anyways sorry to highjack your thread. And sorry you're feeling crappy today too. I wish I could help somehow...

apparently there can be side effects, but they are quite uncommon.

LOL, I take a drug I seem to discover side effects they were not even known to have. Thanks for the names though. I have always been very scared of sleep aids (most drugs any way) but I am getting pretty damn desperate at the moment. And if I go visit my mom like she wants I really think I will need something to knock me out.

Still thread jacking Bec so sorry. I know that sometimes these meds knock you out. OK, almost all meds knock you out bec as you are so sensitive, do these make you feel well rested or is it just time unconscious? That last part of the question was directed at you both. Also, as far as tranqs go I am almost untouched unless it enough to hit an elephant. Like the horrible panic attacks that get to hospital phase I need 3 mgs to bring me down enough to not fully believe I am dieing. Not sure if that makes a difference as far as sleep aids? Would I be resistant as OTC ones don't work.

Evie is very much as you are Veiled, she is highly sensitive and gets strange side effects from most medications she has tried. These sleep aids listed however did not bother her in the slightest, which is saying quite a bit considering how very sensitive she is. So you may wish to give them a try.

Yes it's true what Mum says, I usually have weird side effects from whatever medication I've tried, but I didn't on these sleep meds. Lunesta is a hypnotic similar in action to benzodiazepines, except that it apparently targets a different area of the brain. I guess you would just have to try it out to see if it worked for you or not. As far as side effects go though you shouldn't have too much trouble.

I was probably only on the 3 mgs, bec. I'm giggling that this drug has benadryl in it. Benadryl does not do to me what remeron did. That crap knocked me out for days. There's a new drug I've been reading about called Saredutant. Suppose to be out in the states later this year. It works differently than all the others, and is suppose to have far less side effects. I'll give it a try when it's out. It would be nice if a drug really helped me. Beer helps, but when I drink it, I can't get enough. So I don't drink. Any way, hope you're ok.

I took remeron and it was the worst think that I did. it set me back so far in therapy because it caused things to come up in my mind.

i actually had a problem with Trazadone - i went from 50 mgs a night to 200 mgs now. and sometimes i STILL cannot sleep. best of luck to you though.

:hello: Hi ...

I know it's been a while since I popped in... Ranger has two different "sleep aids" and neither of them really help him to sleep. One is: Quetiapine, 2nd is: Zolpidem.
They don't stop or lessen the dreams either.

Guess everyone's body chemistry is a little different.

Good luck and hope things go well for you...:Hug_emoticon:

Take care

Hi Donna!

I hope all is well with you and Ranger! So nice to hear from you again!

So far, not bad on the Remeron. It doesn't stop the dreams, in fact I have even more disturbing ones now, but I'm still getting sleep so I'm happy with that.

I do know that on Remeron, if you take over 15mgs it no longer works as a sedative. So the dosing might be the issue with some people. Me, I'm sensitive to chemicals so it doesn't even take that much for me!

Trazadone works well for me at 50 mg and I am allowed to take up to 100 mg. Sometimes I have very vivid dreams that are related to my PTSD, but they are not traumatic or disturbing. My feeling about them is they are part of my healing process. If I remember the dreams I go to a dream analysis web-site and find out what they could mean. Kind of a fun game for me.
