Psychiatric Abuse Is Not Bad Therapy

And when "crazy" people speak up they are not seen as believable and it doesn't get prosecuted as one cop said to me that such a patient would not come across as a reasonable witness in an adversarial legal system.
I have zero faith in the legal system and part of my PTSD stems from it. Adversarial is the perfect word.

It saddens me to hear this happens so much. Why do parents not speak out? Surely these boys parents would be believable witnesses? Again I try to make the legal system reasonable.

Why do cases like this go unreported in the news? Why doesn't the general public hear about it? It's infuriating that so little is being done. We go to these people because we are hurt and vulnerable. For them to usurp that position of trust is just so, so wrong.

One of my friends said to me recently, that if she had the money, and she had a major depressive episode, then she would choose to get electro-convulsive therapy.

What I am talking to you about, in terms of psychiatric abuse, is not in the far distant days of mental therapy treatment.
I was referring to Dr. Cameron and his methods as being not far distant. I didn't mean to imply what you were talking about. I'm sorry if it came across that way.

I'm curious why your friend would choose electro convulsive therapy, if you know her reasons?

Okay I misunderstood you @Mishap, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Apparently the research says it is effective for depression. She is an scientific evidence based person.

It is supposed to be effective. I just wonder how inducing seizures and hence damaging random unknown areas of the brain has an effect on things like future Alzheimer's. My ex's grandmother was subjected to etc. she got Alzheimer's.

I've heard a lot of negatives from electro therapies, very few positives. Though I suspect it's probably different today than what it was 40-50 years ago. We use mild electric shock in the form of TENs units for muscle spasms and for pain with great results. There's the new (to the U.S.) electro therapy TENs unit that's recently been approved by the FDA for migraine use. It's the first unit approved for on the head use.

One would hope that current mental health electro current therapy of any kind would be more advanced and controlled than it used to be. It's honestly something I didn't realize was still being used. I believe knowledge is power so it's something I'll do a bit of reading on to satisfy my own curiosity.

Now that you mention it, my ex's grandmother got Alzheimer's as well. To my knowledge no one else in their family has had it. Makes you wonder.

I watched it on a mental health program only difference now is the patient is anaesthetised. It induces a massive seiziure. You can see it happen. How is that different to epileptic seizure and that is dangerous. The whole idea is the seizure damages and then promotes new neuron growth. They have no idea how it really works. They can't target areas and they still don't understand how the brain works. It is just crazy.

I actually landed on this forum because my husband's coworker's wife has been having seizures out of nowhere for several years. They just found out the seizures were psychosomatic due to PTSD. Her doctor finally saw her having one and was able to talk her out of it. I'd never heard of such a thing. I know what my own PTSD does to me, but that was a new one for me.

It never ceases to amaze me how the brain works, and how little we truly understand any of it. It's scary and fascinating at the same time.
