So they should scrap the dx of BPD

The dx has value. PTSD doesn't answer all of my issue and neither does therapies for PTSD. What folks need to do is understand it. What BPD is and isn't. What people with BPD are like and aren't like. There are MANY misconceptions. Many missunderstanding. I've come up against that. But the dx has vaule to me. The therapies have value to me.

No, in my opinion, the dx shouldn't be scrapped. It should be better understood. Better education around it.

And people shouldn't want to avoid someone simple because they have BPD. That makes me very, VERY sad. I'm not saying you are. Just saying people do.

Sounds like the experts even have trouble with it

The experts have "trouble" with all mental disorders. Why is it that two people with the exact same trauma and one have PTSD and one doesn't?

There is enough research and studies to compund therapies for it, DBT being one which works well. And medications for it, Seriquel XR being one which also works well.

There is enough research around it to help it. I for one know that.

I do see your point. In fact when I posted, I reconsidered. No, I never had BPD. But one therapist screened me after a very harsh and forceful demanding way of saying I had it before he even knew I was abused. This was a T i saw one day because I was suicidal. He based it ONLY on that!! I was astounded. When I got home I saw my usual T who laughed. It was a young and new T that had demanded it and my real T said a lot of the newbies (this was the early 90's) were all into it. So I guess I have a rough spot when it comes to thinking about BPD!

This is a great discussion.

Was reading about bpd and it seems different but similar to PTSD. I also didn't realize trauma can lead to multiple personality disorders

There are a few cross over symptoms but in general PTSD is an anxiety-like hyper arrousal disorder. BPD is more of a super intense of emotions disorder. We feel all emotions at about there highest intensity.

But you are correct in saying there are simularities as there are some cross over symptoms.

ETA: Obviously there is much more to both. Just a quick few word summery.

How do you cope with that? Is it all the time or in cycles?

Not in cycles. Basically all emotions are dialed up a ton. Its hard. DBT helps the most. It's a constant management. DBT is made mainly for BPD but helps for a lot of issues and mental disorders.

Also, I take Seriquel XR (extended release). It was prescribed because my anxiety was flowing over the 1mg Xanax 3 times a day but it dumbs down all emotions a bit. Not completely to normal but it helps a lot.

Just like PTSD, it's a constant management of symptoms.
