PTSD And Its Relevance To Hypoglycemia

The mental health pro is there to work on healing or at least mending the mind and the doctor is there to keep the body going in the right direction while this is being done.

Exactly, I agree with you completely.

This guy seems to think that 'nutrition is the first point of call' and people should go on his diet 'before' consulting a trained medical professional. He advises that his diet is an 'alternative' to medical advice, medication, and therapy. Again diet is not an 'alternative' to any professional medical care!

He is risking the health and well being of many mentally unwell individuals by advising them to avoid professional medical care. A very dangerous thing to be saying to the mentally unwell, particularly where depression (and suicidal ideation) might be in their histories! He seems to completely ignore individuals cases and comments, for his own self serving purpose.

BTW The so called 'association' he is claims to be newsletter editor for, HE created! He doesn't tell people that this 'association' was created, developed, content filled, by him and him ALONE. He only tells people that he is the newsletter editor and a member of this association. NOT a professional association people!

Now what disturbs me most about this individual is most people with mental health issues are vulnerable and quick to listen to the opinion given by a professional. By that simple fact people this this "Pro" are actually a greater danger to the public because they specifically build themselves up in such a way as to pray on those who may be unable to defend. It reminds me of an adult going after a child. A person who seeks out someone weaker in order to maintain control.

I couldn't agree with you more Shadow. This individual is nothing more than a cyber predator praying on the mentally unwell and highly vulnerable. Reminds me of media coined label for another quack who did a lot of damage with unsound 'medical advice' - 'Dr Death'.

Jurrian Plesman's 'Nutritional' credentials are from an online degree mill. He is NO Scientist, NOR is he an 'expert'...he is cited by no reputable sources, has produced no articles in peer-reviewed professional journals.

His 'articles' lack scientific inquiry, citation, peer review....and the worst thing is, he claims expertise on multiple topics for which he has NO EDUCATION for.

Yet another example...this time, aimed at discrediting our therapists, their profession...and our suffering.

"Armed with this new knowledge, therapists should realize that the psychological link between an internally driven emotion and past traumatic memory helps a victim to manage his illness psychologically. He may have resorted to alcohol or drugs, or other kinds of behaviour for self-medication. If a therapist were to attempt to break the connection between ‘emotion’; and ‘past experience’ through psychotherapy or any other kind of talk therapy, the therapist would fall into the trap of confusing causes and consequences. It certainly will increase his/her client’s suffering. In other words a therapist may unwittingly “enable” a client to believe that the “cause” of the emotional disorder is the “trauma”, whereas in fact attention should be brought to the underlying metabolic disorder operating in the here-and-now and that is generating the symptoms of PTSD."

I can never reccommend anything Jurrian Plesman writes. In my opinion, his articles are a self-promotion stunt which preys on those he can. A reputable, ethical, credentialed professional would never act in such a manner.

I have a question that needs answering. My blood sugar levels have been high for years, and I now take 25 units of Lantus twice a day and 15 units of Novarapid 3 times a day. Usually it is always on the high side between 12 to 25.
Since I started going to the gym two weeks ago and changed my eating habits it is low. Between 3 and 7, so I am reducing my insuline intake because I am having bouts of hypoglycemia daily. Is it normal for this to happen, with diet and exercise?

Loloma, that is a discussion you need to have with your doctor. It would be unwise for us to give you any suggestions on this when the stakes are so high.

Please don't wait. Your meds may need adjusting, or something else. Please take care of yourself.

Thanks (((((BloominWinter))))). I thought about it after I wrote it and rang the doctors surgery for advise which they gave me. Have adjusted the insuline accordingly. First time it's every happened to me, so I must be does something good for my body. ;)

Hypoglycemia is medically defined as a blood sugar lower than 72 mg/dl. Considering that carbohydrates and sugars are one of the few things our brains absorb directly as energy I would say that improving hypoglycemic symptoms would undoubtedly improve PTSD symptoms as, of course, improving brain function will improve all mental health. It however is really not related to PTSD at all, but the mechanisms of the brain.

If you deprive anyone of an adequate supply of carbohydrates, sugars, or ketones/specific carbohydrates, you are going to undoubtedly run into problems neurologically. If you have PTSD I am sure this would just be multiplied ten-fold. I think this dr is taking an improvement in PTSD symptoms by treating hypoglycemia as some sort of miracle medical breakthrough, when really it's just improving brain function over-all.

Once the person has had steady doses of sugar and their brain function returns to a baseline, the PTSD symptom severity will just re-emerge (if it has even lowered at all with treatment).

I just noticed that my spelling is getting worse, and I am forgetting how to spell words. My son made a comment on Facebook.:confused:
