Hello forum. I'm glad I found you because I definitely need to talk with other people that have PTSD and are working towards being successful or rather getting their life back.

Long story short, I was attacked by clients at my job several times and received a hand full of head injuries, bites, etc. The Doctor told me the last head injury I received put me over the edge and said I couldn't work any more. The job was with emotional and physically aggressive teenagers.

So now, 2 and a half years later, I'm released from my workers compensation, trying to find a job (the only job I ever had was the one I got injured in) and have a bachelors degree in the field of work that I was injured in.

I'm nearing my 30's and still live at home with family, because the timing of the injury was when I had put an offer on a house and due to injury couldn't move out. I have zero income because I can't seem to get a job.

Needless to say, I never want to work with children again but that's what my work experience and degree is in. I'm very frustrated, feel hopeless, feel like a failure at times, and just desperately want to get my life back on track.

Thank you for listening.

Maybe you could work for a local church. If you live in the US you can apply for FASA grant money(I did so once,it's rather easy) and go back and learn a trade or further your education so you could work in your field;but at a higher level;thus removing yourself from that environment. Just a thought.

If you are seeing a therapist for PTSD why haven't you applied for Social Security Disability Insurance?

Max and welcome by the way!;)

It sounds like she can work, so SSDI won't cover her. I am interpreting her post as she wants to work but can't find a job because of education/experience/crappy economy etc, not because of disability.

Well, kaiser, just remember that LOTS of people change careers. It's quite common. Have you thought of taking classes in another area/field? Perhaps volunteering to get experience elsewhere?

I have a degree in something I'll likely never use. A crappy economy combined with my diagnosis put and end to those dreams. But now I'm taking classes again and I'm moving in a new direction.

I wish you the best.

Hi Kaiserkid,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum! :)

I hope that you find the information and support here beneficial as you work on healing.

Take care.

Debbie

I am at the beginning of the same process. I have also been attacked physically by teenage clients. When I complained about the safety issues I was harassed at work and eventually put on administrative leave. I am now in process of going on medical leave for my ptsd and depression. I was told I should go for workmans comp but I don't even know where to start. I hope things get better.

Hello there. And welcome!!

I'm almost 30 years old and just moved out of my parents house. I lived in the US but was unable to find a job either. Have you though part of the reason you are unable to find a job is due to bad economy?? I know it's a wild guess, so who knows.

A month ago I moved to UK just to have a fresh start in my life. I know it's a drastic measure but that's what works for me. Currently I am taking a course in a completely different field. Perhaps the responses you got from other members about starting something new isn't so bad (?) Just something to think about.

Good luck with everything.

I was injured at work and developed PTSD as a result. After almost twelve years I am trying to return to the same field I was in with no luck. So I applied to graduate school in a different field and am waiting to hear if I got in or not. I hear you about living at home- that's where I'm at. When the injuries occurred I was looking for my own place too. I'm sorry that you were hurt at work. It made me never want to work again at least for the past almost twelve years. If you don't want to go for a masters degree there are a lot of certification programs out there such as paralegal etc. Good luck to you and welcome.
