PTSD Is Not Who I Am

I'm Aine, I'm 18 and I live in the U.K.

I've been suffering from PTSD symptoms for 7 years but I was only diagnosed a month ago. I'm currently awaiting treatment.

I suppose I joined this forum because I thought there's a chance that there are people here who know what it's like. I've been feeling recently that although PTSD is not who I am, it has taken over my life and no one around me really understands what that's like.

Still, PTSD aside, I'm quite bubbly and fun. I like having a good time with my friends, curling up in bed with a good book, watching a good film (I'd live at the cinema if I could), singing at the top of my lungs and I'm currently studying Psychology and Creative Writing at university. I love writing and hope one day to maybe turn that into a career but will settle for an equally interesting career as a psychologist.

I look forward to meeting you all :)

Love and Light,

Aine.

Hi Aine

Welcome to the forum.

You have come to a great place for help, advice and support for all your ptsd issues.

All of us on here do understand what it is like when you have ptsd, whether a carer or a sufferer.

You will find we are a great crowd, always up for a laugh when possible.

Good luck and take care.

Welcome Aine,

Yes, the people here understand and care. It is a great place to come for help and information. Sorry you suffer with PTSD, but glad you are hear.

Hi Aine :hello:

Welcome to the Forum.

You are absolutely right when you say you are not PTSD.

We are not PTSD, anymore than we are a headache when we have one.

As the old saying goes, you are not our disease/disorder - you are so much more!

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

You are absolutely more than ptsd and I am sure you will see a wealth of human spirit and knowledge available to you on this forum. I doubt you will ever think less of yourself because you have this condition as a result of being here.

Take care and look forward to reading your posts

Aine,

Thanks for posting. I loved your statement "ptsd is not who I am."

Sometimes (most of the time), I am so overwhelmed by the "symptoms" that I think that there is nothing else. Like you, it seems to have taken over my life. It's good to be reminded that ptsd is not who I am, I am so much more.

Thank you for the reminder!

Welcome Aine! I'd say there is a VERY good chance there are people here who know what it's like. For me, it's so helpful to know I'm not alone. I have found a lot of support and information here as well as new friends!
