A new study is the first to examine the relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dozens of infection types in a nationwide cohort. Researchers found that PTSD affects infection risks for men and women differently, having, for example, more of an effect on a woman's risk of urinary tract infection and a man's risk of skin infection.

I am pleased more studies are being done to find the relationship between mental and physical illness and agree with the correlation, just not necessarily in that order, The reverse is equally true, infection increases risk of ptsd. Chicken and the egg...

I in no way critique you, but there's some possible issues. Research with people is difficult since ethically it cannot be a controlled study, ruling out other factors.

Just to name a few, they would have to perform every test for underlying infections or health factors and many infections don't have accurate tests. Then choose people for the study that are exactly the same from all results, ruling out any genetic factors. Everyone would also have to be exposed to the exact same bacteria before and during the study.

What I'm saying is that I was told my health was poor because of stress, when in fact my stress was off the charts from a neurological disease. It reminds me when doctors said ulcers were from worrying. Decades later, it turns out bacteria was causing a good amount of them and bleeding ulcers are extremely stressful.

Hopefully, the hot topics of ptsd and suicide will continue to pressure the medical community to find real answers and any relationship between the two is certainly a good.

Thanks for the information!

@pamcoco i was rather thinking the same as you say. I have CPTSD but I also have eczema. So are my increased skin infections due to my CPTSD? And how could you possible tell.
when I’m anxious I scratch more, but if I didn’t have eczema would this be the case?if I scratch I am more likely to get an infection. I am from an allergic family, asthma, eczema, hay fever. We all have at least one of these. Did my allergic problems cause the abuse that resulted in my CPTSD? Doubtful.

I do understand that when they do these research on loads of people they are able to make more connections, but I also know from my own mini research project in my psychology degree, that there is a lot of bias to ‘get an answer’ and therefore justify undertaking the research.

it is all fascinating stuff.
