Glad to hear it (sorta) ScaredofLonely! Hope you're okay with having a regular period now, as it kinda sounded like you didn't mind the long gaps before.

I've followed this thread for the reasons everyone else has- stress has played a huge part over the years, from missing them to having way too many. There's been no other explanation- plus, before the PTSD and the life events which caused it I WAS a 28-day, like clockwork person. At 53, with things friggin in an uproar in the system it's a dam nightmare, although gyn states 2 week long periods are 'normal'- ha! Then another in 2 weeks. OK. I'm only answering this for one thing because the difference pre-traumas and post was ridiculous. I'm not a medical person but geesh- how could there be a doubt? The other reason is that neurotherapy sounds extremely interesting, am wondering if it's something which would still be helpful through the whole menopause thing.

My daughter has pcos. She went on the pill the end of her senior year. She weighed about 125 lb. She began gaining weight in her freshman year of college. (thought it was the freshman 15). Well 15 turned into more. By her senior year, she was 200 lb. At first she blamed the pill but a change did not help. She had thyroid testing that was negative.

Finally she had saliva hormone testing and her testosterine in very high, and some other things, indicating pcos. She eventually saw an endocronologist. She lives a high stress life in ways (school/overachiever) but no trauma. Her period were not normal before pill and were very painful.

Saliva hormone tests are evidently very good at picking up disorders. I had this done and found adrenal fatigue.

I have CPTSD and PCOS. My cysts were seen and physically 'burst' on one occasion during surgery for another problem. It was proven on my bloods.

I have always had irregular periods. Bleeding for between 7 days and 6 weeks (yes WEEKS) at a time. Periods coming every 2 weeks to every 6 months. Completely erratic.

In the last 3 months I have started the contraceptive pill. This is primarily to even out the hormone imbalance and reduce the mood swings. As the periods are so erratic I only know my mood is period-related after the event. It has been very difficult. The pill regulating the periods is really a side issue, but a welcome one. It was a hard decision to take the pill, as I had always hoped, one day to have a family. Now at 47 I have finally given up on that hope and decided to take care of 'me' instead of a wild dream.

So whether stress has impacted on my menstrual cycle I have no idea!!!
