@anthony

Hi, I wasn't sure where I could post this so I hope this is right. I see you have a post made for questions to ask a Psychiatrist. Do you have one for what questions to ask a potential Trauma T? There are many online, but they all differ.

Also, I have another question. I have read in books about PTSD that CBT is currently the most effective form. Is this accurate from a scientific standpoint?

Thanks.

Does Anthony answer direct questions? I always thought that was a perk of being a premium member so I never asked any!

With regard to your second question, I was reading this article by Anthony just a couple of hours ago:

I had read an article that CBT isn't necessarily the best for childhood stuff that involves dissociation, but I forget where. :-)

@Solara, you are correct. I do have childhood trauma, but I worked most of that out through Psychotherapy. I think that maybe @Barconian missed the part where you said "I had read an article that . . ."

I do wonder what he wondered too though. That did strike my curiosity. If you find that article, I'd love to read it for learning purposes.

There seem to be a group of us that didn't/don't respond well to CBT and it seems we all have childhood trauma and significant dissociation amongst other things. Most people with both seem to find CBT works for them though.

It seems to me that a lot of those who don't find CBT helpful have found somatic therapy and DBT helpful as well as approaches such as those discussed in Invisible Heroes. They also find talk therapy works for them it seems.

I am still finding what is going to work for me but it will definitely be talk therapy based and DBT is hugely helpful for me. I also used crayons and a sandtray last in therapy which helped me when I couldn't talk (which was all the time! ;)).

Personally I do think CBT seems to work for the majority of people but I do also believe one of the reasons there is so much proven result data linked to CBT is only because CBT is more easily measured than other approaches.

I only started making progress in therapy when I stopped doing CBT and for me I actually think it caused some additional damage at the time.
