Readers thread: what or who are you reading right now?

The Rhythm Section.

I hate it. It’s like listening to a street map a lot of the time - the author might have tried to take the London cab drivers test they knowledge’ or something: lists of directions. It’s just obnoxious. Redeemingly - it’s Narrator is INCREDIBLE. The quality of narration i adore.

And the reason I am still listening. That and that I have signed up to a book challenge. This book challenge is already seeing me expand my limits - this is the third book I wouldn’t have read without it - and the first flop.

If anyone else is interested I’ll post the link, it works out as four books a month and there is a lot of choice. This one is from the category ‘books being made into a movie in 2020’. This is a release this month I think with Jude Law.

Such a fun age.
I like this book because it’s showing how a person rationalises their poor behaviour, and has love and is ‘real’.

Next I am going to read Sweetpea- a book that’s meant to be funny about a female serial killer ?.

I just started the reading challenge. It looks fun. My first book will be:

The Reincarnationist Papers (The Cognomina Chronicles Book 1)

by D. Eric Maikranz

And Hillbilly Elegy. I'd better get started!

Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown.
It’s a really super book- part memoir part magical realism.

I have read so very many books, fiction and nonfiction where the protagonists overcome traumatic experiences and I do have to admit it makes me feel like a bit of a failure :/ .

It's just fiction. Remember, books are designed to sell. While more true to life, no one would buy a book in which the protagonist kept fumbling around, getting better very slowly by degrees.

Most people don't have PTSD and don't know what it's like. Authors included.

We haven't had a NaNoWriMo thread in awhile, where some young aspiring writer comes in and wants to know what PTSD is like. It's always terrible when that happens. I'd rather have them make it all up.

EDIT: Here's an example: Research - Survivor Guilt Stories
and another: Research - Writing for a character with ptsd
Terrible.

Ugh, I've been so busy I forgot to read! I listen to audiobooks, but the library doesn't have all the books on my list. Wow, that sounds whiny. I should just get the ones that are on audiobook and read the rest, lol.

What should be wild by Julia Fine .
I am enjoying it.
I am catching up on hard copy books I have- @DharmaGirl. So many I want to read aren’t on audible. I seem to remember there used to be a little button for if you wanted to be able to encourage publishers to make a kindle edition available. I wish the same for audible now :).
