Poll Reasons for military PTSD

I am not a veteran and I do not have ptsd. However I think I would like to “poor social support at homecoming to the list“. Somewhere I have read that is was one of the main risk factors for ptsd (I mean apart from trauma of course)... by “poor social support“ I do not mean family problems or indifference about veterans but more or less that they miss the sense of comeradeship (help @Freida: is this a real English word?) and brotherhood. Many vets told me so.

Also would add the categories “other“ and “none of the above“.

I normally keep my nose out of military threads, b/c I do NOT belong...as a civ. I'm only violating that personal policy b/c of @Friday comments.

I'm very disturbed to read "In bootcamp we were told 4 out of 5 women would be raped in their first year, most of the rest by the end of their first tour. So to look out for each other.

WOW! ??

Of course, I had heard that MST happens, but I am astonished to learn of the magnitude of the problem. It must be a deeply entrenched part of Military culture to be that common. 4 out of 5 means that it actually the "norm" for MST to occur!

My deepest sympathies to all the service women and men that have been affected by this travesty.

Thanks. There are A LOT of males that experience MST which is why PTSD is a major factor. I mentor in a veterans treatment court....shit happens. This is why I felt that it is important to mention MST to you.

And ya. That can be a huge issue as they try to move to life as a civilian because it is so different....even without PTSD
