Hello all,
Sorry that it's been a while since I've posted. I experienced a traumatic incident last December (murder witness) and developed Post traumatic stress symptoms. I had hoped that my PTS symptoms would settle down but unfortunately whilst my condition has improved, I have been diagnosed with PTSD.

I am a student and have a part time temporary job (contracts get extended every six months). I only get paid for the hours that I work.

I was sectioned in January last year and spent 1 month in hospital and one month in a crisis house due to severe trauma related psycosis.

I was so unwell that I couldn't of possibly communicated adequately with anyone let alone my employers.
Once out of hospital and recovering, I let them know that I had serious personal issues which meant I could not work for a while. This was accepted. I wish I'd of had the courage to tell them what had happened but I could not face it at the time.

During August this year, I worked full time for my employer (I don't have to!) to make up for what I had missed. I felt more ready to open up a little bit and I let them know that I had been unwell and that's why I couldn't have worked before. I didn't tell them about the PTSD because I didn't want to discuss the trauma.

These last two months the murder has been in court and a lot of press attention has increased my symptoms . On top of this I have just started exposure therapy.

Fast forward two months and I have just been told that my contract won't be extended because they want to give the opportunity to somebody else. I haven't been told why. Contracts usually get extended continuously unless someone faces a disciplinary.

I have explained via email the traumatic incident (which caused a lot of anxiety and you all can imagine) and the severity of my symptoms since. I have also pointed out that I have worked solidly throughout August, even working 13 hour days sometimes when usually we are only required to work once or twice a month throughout a year.

They said they will not reconsider the decision.

I must add that I really respect my employer and don't believe they would treat me unfairly on purpose. I am going to a meeting with them on Tuesday where they will hopefully explain their decision.

I am also going to citizens advice on Monday so hopefully that will help.

I just wondered whether I am being ungrateful and unreasonable by wanting my contract extended. My employers are good people and someone else could probably do with the opportunity.

I am very young, a bit naive about things like this and I'm hoping that more experienced heads on this site will be able to give me some advice.

I would really appreciate any replies.

Thanks for reading this :)
