I figured I may as well start a new blog entry on this one, and that way we have them all in one place. Cat suggested a style for St. Patricks Day, 17 March each year and a global date, so we can do that. Currently styles to release during the year will be:

  • Valentines Day - Feb 14 (Completed) - 2011 Rebuild Due To Being Hard To Read
  • St Patricks Day - Mar 17 (Completed)
  • Easter Day - Apr 4 (Completed)
  • ANZAC Day (Australia & New Zealand) - Apr 25 (Scheduled for 2011 at this stage)
  • Memorial Day (US) - May 31 (Scheduled for 2011 at this stage)
  • Independence Day - Jul 4 (Completed)
  • Forum Birthday - Sep 06 (Will become default style for following year)
  • Remembrance Day (UK & Canada) - Nov 11 (Scheduled for 2011 at this stage)
  • Christmas - Dec 25
  • New Years - Jan 01
Styles will become default approximately 24hrs prior to the day and remain the same after, as we are all across different time zones.

If you have a national holiday / event that is significant enough to warrant a special style for the day, post your suggestions.

I wonder if Memorial Day (US) might be appropriate? It's the 31st of May this year, and commemorates the US men and women who lost their lives in military service. And perhaps other countries with major representations on the forum have a similar day as well?

Btw, the styles overall are a great idea!

Oh... I thought that's what Remembrance Day (also referred as Veterans Day I believe) was about? No??? Australia has ANZAC day.

Ok... I got rid of remembrance day / veterans day, as it was obviously memorial day that I was looking for, being the US version of ANZAC day, where soldiers of past conflicts are remembered for their sacrifice of life.

How about a Birthday one, for the actual date that the forum was conceived, up and running. It would be a way to celebrate the advances, struggles, and the victories that occurred here over the years.....It could also be a tribute to you Anthony, for all of the hard work that you have done her to get the forum up and running, and to keep it going....JMO!!!!

Actually, in the US we have both Memorial Day and Veterans Day and they are two different things.

Memorial Day is the last Monday of May and commemorates all US men and women who have died while in military service.

Veterans Day is November 11 and honors all military veterans (which we define as anyone who has or is currently serving in the military).

I believe other parts of the world celebrate November 11 as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day as a celebration of the ending of World War I.

We Americans have to make everything so darn complicated. LOL

That does help cat... thanks. It is more the memorial day that is important then than the veterans day. The veterans day is something to celebrate on the combat ptsd forum, not this one. For all service personnel in general, that I believe is appropriate for here.

Australia doesn't really celebrate remembrance day... more focused on ANZAC day only.

Currently working on two styles, the 4th of July and a new forum clean style... clean lines, blocky, large and easy to read.

Could I ask that in time one for UK's Remembrance Day be added in. This being the 11 of November, it used to be called Armistice Day but was re-named after the second World War.

The poppy being the symbol, flowering each year bringing hope to those still fighting in the devastation of everything else in Flanders, the whole of Western Belgium during the first world war.
