So, after what amounts to almost 5 years of denial and thinking it wasn't as bad as I thought (boy was I wrong), I went to see the doc today on base (or post, if you prefer). It went better then expected. They started me on Zoloft. And are setting me up with counseling appointments via the clinic. Not sure how those will go but only time will tell.

It is a start. Hopefully the Zoloft helps. If any of you all have any tips about it, let me know. I know it is a SSRI and I am familar with what they do in general terms.

Just have to see how things go from here.

Hey CAFT

It usually takes a week or two till you start feeling better as I'm sure you know if you're familiar with SSRI's. They usually help. Did they give you anything in the mean time to help like Ativan or something like that? Any way hope it goes well for ya'.

I've been on Zoloft for awhile now. I noticed a big change rather quickly. Make sure you take it with food though. Heart burn like I've never had before if I don't.

I found Zoloft made me sweat a lot more. I was on Zoloft from 2006 till last year. I then changed to and SNRI called Pristiq, a lot better results.

I was on Celexa years ago for depression, didn't know at the time it was PTSD all along. It helped at the time and after a year of so I decided to try to get off of it. My psychiatrist said that I might have to be on it for life. I said well if that's so then let's find out. I weened myself off it. She never helped in anyway nor did she follow up to see how I was doing. She was an outside of the VA doctor. A few of the symtoms came back but not as severe and I was able to deal with them. SSRI's have some pronounced side effects but it helped at the time.

It also gave me the sweats. I've always sweated alot, especially when working. Learned how to stay well hydrated. Got heat prostration a couple of times in Nam, felt like crap but not sick enough to be removed from the field. It did teach me about looking after myself when I work or it's hot.
