To be honest, I didn't know a forum/community like this existed, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it. My name is Jen and I'm 35. I have an old toothless cat, a very sadistic new kitten, freshwater catfishes by the score, a quasi-old mother in good condition, and a small human boy that apparently belongs to me.

I'm on disability for Fibromyalgia and Raynaud's disease, but seriously, I'd take that over PTSD any day. In fact, medications for the both cannot be administered together for safety reasons, so my treatment is a little bit different. I am not on any medication at all. In other words, I just keep quiet.

I think there's a saying, you can be right, or you can be... not in jail. So, I'll just keep on. Well, that's that I guess. I hope to get to know everyone, take care.

Hi Jenfa,

Welcome to MyPTSD! :)

There are many members here that do not take medication for PTSD. I don't take medication and I find the best results have come from just making changes in the way that I think and in the way that I live. But recovery is a personal journey and there are many different paths that members share and I hope that you find them helpful for yourself.

This is a great site for information and the support of the members is amazing.

Take care.

Debbie

Hi Jenfa,

Welcome. I'm glad you were able to find this place. You have a great sense of humor.

and a small human boy that apparently belongs to me.

I have a few humanoids running around as well but they're not so smallish anymore. Well the girl kinda is still.

Hello Jen,

Welcome to the forum. I haven't taken much medication and have done my healing almost pharmaceutical free. I am near the end of my journey with PTSD and I can't say I've enjoyed the disorder much. I am glad I didn't bother with the route of medication. Although if I am honest I have used a lot of cannabis to self medicate, this for me has been a very powerful anti-psychotic. I smoke much less now as my symptom clusters have greatly decreased, I need it less.

Medication can be a fickle thing. Whilst they can genuinely help many people, they can also cause and encourage repression of trauma and traumatic symptoms. Shutting one down from what the sub-conscious is naturally trying to bring out. This can be counter-productive in some people at some stages, whilst many people, especially at the beginning really need something to take the edge off their symptoms and allow them to engage in therapy and the grounding and stabilisation process.

Please avoid fearing, or feeling different by not taking medication. It is actually quite normal for many of us to avoid the pharmaceutical route. Drugs can't process trauma, therapy is what tends to assist most people with this task.

Best wishes upon your journey.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I loved this, thanks for making me smile. :D

I have a cat that gets drawn to boxes like she is magnetized.

Best wishes. :)
