Recently I am reading "The haunted self" by Dr. Onno vd Hart. It is a very informative and theoretical book about Complex trauma, written by him and two other authors.

I googled Dr. Onno vd Hart and found an email adres. I would really want to ask him some questions about complex trauma and treatment in the Netherlands, but I feel it would be inappropriate to do so.

Is it inappropriate or unrealistic to send him an email with some questions?
( it almost feels like I would be sending an email to the queen :giggle: asking her advise on how to keep my toilet clean)

What would you do? Is there anyone here that contacted some "famous" professor in the psychiatric field? Did you get a response?

Sterre, in my experience authors are happy to receive emails, and almost always respond. Experts are not "superior" to us, we don't owe them any more respect than they owe us, and we don't have to feel awkward about talking to them (despite what we've been taught in school!). All through my uni studies I have contacted very prominent authors and almost always received helpful feedback, usually within a few days of emailing them. When I tell my fellow students about it, they say they never thought of doing that (and they probably still don't do it), because they think that they're too insignificant to get noticed by someone who's popular and rich (even though most authors are not rich!).

So I would give it a go :-)

I would say yes, go ahead. I would just caution that you may not get an immediate response, as if emailing a close friend. Perhaps you will though. A few years back I participated in a forum associated with a book for family members of those with depression. The author had an area on the forum where you could ask questions. She seemed to respond every few weeks.

Thanks for your respons!

Because of my poor intuition of hierarchie, I was doubting if it would be far to inappropriate to mail Dr. Onno vd Hart.
But I think I am going to spend this afternoon in writing a proper email with some questions in them, and just send them to the email adress Ive got.

If he doesnt respond, well, it would be a shame but thats okay. If he does respond, I am going to piss my pants and then read what he has to say !

I wanted to ask him if he knows about specialist treatments in the netherlands for people who suffer complex trauma, and where to find them. I am sure he does know, because he wrote a whole book about treatment protocols and so.
Is it a stupid or selffish question to ask?

Whahaha, Nicolas....yes I acctually think it is a somewhat selffish question, and a bit stupid to. Because maybe I am overlooking something while I google my days away in finding a trauma specialist in the netherlands and not finding them.

But you are right, it's my shame and insecurity thats talking. I am going to give it a try!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I did it, I did it!
Luckely I can write in Dutch, so much easier..pfewwwww.

I did it!!!! I pushed the send button!!!!!!!!

Now the waiting can begin:D...will the big Dr.Knowitallaboutcomplextrauma respond ?:)

Thanks for your support Nicolas!

So glad you sent the e-mail sterre, because if your having trouble finding adequate help and support, he mat be only to pleased to hear this.

Why you may ask. !!! Well whats the point of writing a book about the treatment if no one has access to it. So you asking, may alert him to this, and it goes on from there.

Yes!
Today I recived a reply by Dr. Onno vd Hart!

He appologized for his late response, and gave me the name and adress of someone who is specialised in treating Complex trauma in the Netherlands.
Yeah!

I have allready searched online for her e-mailadres ( a female psychologist) and going to write an email tonight.
