I am now a bit more alert than I was the last time I attempted to write here. First of all as I said the surgery went well. The doc showed me pictures of what my shoulder looked like. On the backside of my shoulder was this nice fully functional tendon nice distinct edges kind of pretty to look at really, and then he showed me the messed up one which to me looked kinda like a cloud. My cloudy tendon was torn about 30% through. But since the majority of it was still intact he decided to just remove about a CM of bone over the tendon to give it more room. His thought is that the bone itself was rubbing on it and causing it to slowly tear. So remove the bone and all should get better. Apparently the tear will heal itself over time.
Now on to the funny bit. First of all it took 3 people to hold me down while I was coming out of anesthesia. I may have referred to one of the people holding me down as the devil. Also I tried to bite one of them. Part of the procedure involved doing something called a nerve block. Which basically means they purposely paralyzed my right arm for 24 hours so I couldn't feel it or hurt it by moving it. Now they warned me beforehand that some people can still move their hand after this but the hand would be pretty much numb. Talk about a strange feeling. I couldn't feel anything from my neck to my elbow and what I could feel of my fingers was numb and almost like the fingers were asleep. It felt like someone had cut off my arm but I could still move my hand it was a very strange experience.
Now today is Thursday I had the surgery on Monday. I was given 6, 12 hour slow release morphine pills to help with the pain. Now on the first day that was like magic when the pain started took the pill and bingo no more pain. Since then though all it is doing is making me sick so I am not longer taking the morphine. Doc has me on percocet for pain now and I am surviving just fine with it.
So far my days consist of waking up taking a pain pill hopping into my shoulder CPM chair and using that for an hour, then going back to bed. This chair thing I strap my arm into it and it moves my arm for me. I do that for 1 hour at a time 3-4 times a day. Hurts like hell and wears me out so I go back to relax and I keep falling asleep. So this is the longest I have been awake without torturing myself since the surgery. Any questions just ask me but it might take a day or 2 to respond.
