Single Sign-on Solution Underway

There is a single sign-on solution (SSO) that is now in development. What it means is this, the forum network will eventually become a single username environment, that once logged into any of the sites, you will automatically be logged into the other sites.

You have one registered account, that's it.

This is no way interferes with profile information or permissions across any forum, it is purely username, password and email, which username and email are unique entities, and the password obviously goes to your unique entities.

It has a conflict resolution process of manual authentication, which will allow manual handling for those who have accounts on other sites. Those who use the same username, no issue... those who do not, issues will arise and you will endup receiving a notification that an account is banned or such, being one username can only exist.

I cannot give specifics... as the development only begins in a weeks time and will take at least a month to complete, let alone beta testing, etc.

I am one of the daft bunch that has 2 different user names so I watch with trepidation to see which account gets banned! I did not do it deliberately, but can see the sense in having a SSO. It will make life simpler all round.

As I said above, it is in development and finalities are not complete. This exact issue is now in discussion at the point of development, because valid points have been raised with those participating about a member having a right to their own username on a site, however; they simply won't be able to use the SSO solution until they either register a username on the master account (being this site) or they register a new username on the slave account, being the other sites.

Because we have a no multiple account network, that will still not stop one account becoming closed down, or a brief period where username changes are allowed on slave sites to bring the username and email to be the same as the master.

I cannot give definitives at this point, because as issues arise in development, then discussion takes place to work out the best overall solution and approach. The end outcome may be vastly different after lots of heads have their input.

Ok... a little clearer direction now I understand more after the developer confirmed some aspects for me.

The single sign-on (SSO) will use a persons email address, not username. In other words, if you have an account on one, two or all three of the forums, as long as they all have the exact same email address in your account profile, which every user can change themselves (will require a confirmation sent to the email upon changing), then basically you can have a different username for those existing accounts as it will sync your account based on your email.

Those who either visit another network site, or register any new account on any network site, once installed, will have the one account that they can use across all sites automatically, thus getting instant affect of SSO.
