"good luck, bad luck, it's hard to tell." from the rather long buddhist story. Or maybe it is chinese. Anyway, if you search "good luck, bad luck, who knows" you'll find a couple of versions.

"Sit up straight! Breathe!" (shouted across a riding arena is how I learned it - but applicable very widely when scared :))

and then "When you're going through hell, Keep on going!"

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

Two songs come to mind when I think of a song to help lift me out of the doldrums. One is the song "Don't worry, be happy" and one by Willy Nelson, can't remember the title. Lyrics have a line - "You've got to acc'centuate the positive and elim'inate the negative." I wish I could remember more of the lyrics. I'd post a youtube link but I don't think I have that priviledge yet. They really do help sometimes... Unless it's like the third day I've had it stuck in my head. lol. :whistling:

One phrase I use often, but not often enough, is "You are responsible for your own happines" (speaking to self) or "I am responsible for my own happines". Expecting life to just be a bowl of cherries is a bit unrealistic, You've got to go out and pick the cherries, clean 'em up and put em in a bowl for your own enjoyment. This is all metaphoricly speaking.

In my lifes experiences, I've seen that I have to take care of myself first before I can effectively take care of anyone else. Kinda like trying to take the splinter out of someone elses eye, but yet I have a beam in my eye.

Please forgive me for my spelling tonight. Lots of pain meds make concentration difficult.

I have a couple which are made up (ish) but make me smile.

1) When the going gets tough, the tough go on holiday.
That was in 2005, when both my H and I were made redundant at the same time. We still went on our 25 year anniversary holiday to Maderia.

2) When the going gets tough, the tough go for a drink.
Not really helpful, but a glass of French wine brought back from holiday and reminising about where we bought it.
