Sludge:the Intro- Director's Cut

Now that I think about it Jar...sometimes you get the feeling a Neuro doc would love to fondle one's brain...ouch! We really did spin off...Sorry Sludge.
Threads like this one are intended to spin in my eyes. Sometimes a little openness with others leads to new topics we can all learn from. Hell, I never really thought about half this stuff until I decided to jump in on the re-introduction bit. Thats a good thing. Reminded me of other issues I had, have, beat or need to start working on.

Well, that and these days off and pain killers have provided me with too much idle time. I go back into full swing in about 12 hours. Got a lot of healing to do with the face, but it is really strange to look in the mirror and see a face that existed only in pictures from years ago again. Hopefully I can trim and shave a bit, I'm starting to look like chewbacca in a hurricane if you get my drift.

...The docs wanted to open up the brainbox something fierce swearing it was damage due to head trauma, but MRI, PET and X-rays showed nothing abnormal therefore I refused even exploratory surgery. There is some surgery I just won't allow.

I completely agree with that!

To date they still have no idea why or how I have them, but as long as I lay off the booze, exercise and watch what I eat, I'm seizure free...Truthfully these days I often wonder if it wasn't a misdiagnosis. I have read that some anxiety attacks are so severe they look like seizures...I just got my drivers license back in 2011. It was originally pulled in 2001.

Wow...10 years -- Belated congrats for getting your freedom wheels back! I tell folks my wife was more traumatized than I...cuz I basically slept (was unconscious) through it but she had to watch the whole thing and it freaked her out. And with our 2 young kids it took awhile for her to feel comfortable with me driving them.

Your point about misdiagnosis & anxiety attacks is very interesting because they are telling my friend her seizures are anxiety attacks/produced?! So, maybe they're on target...we just assumed her seizure was TBI but they seem to think more anxiety. You're the first one to validate that possibility. Stress is powerful and the brain is truly a complicated machine.

Yeah. it took much research on my part and driving my Doc crazy in the process. While I have no memory of the episodes, other than suddenly waking up on the deck and not knowing how I got there, it took me putting a few web cams up around my apartment at the time and catching a few of them on film. After showing that to me Doc (a neurologist in those days, not a brain-picker), he agreed that whatever they were they were not typical seizures of any type he was familiar with. Then I got really lucky and had one in front of him a few weeks later.

Once we started working together as treating them as super panic attacks rather than short-circuits of the ol' brain, I got dramatically better astoundingly fast. Be learning how to cope with stress and panic, I got pretty good at keeping my wetware from getting overloaded. Might not work for everyone, but it works pretty well for me. It was still a very long process however. Just knowing that it is not TBI or some such and a reaction to both conscious and unconscious anxiety helps. Sleep helps too, but that is one aspect I still struggle with.

i think of it like a really bad deer in the headlights reaction. apparently in some of us the brain just shuts down and reboots rather than even bothering to deal with emotional stress.

That makes sense...I really need to work on a proper sleep schedule. I know I'm playing with fire but it is hard as you know. You were very clever with the cameras. I need to pass on your experience to me friend...she seems to have the exact same issue.
