Sludge's "everything You Wanted To Know About Your Meds" Thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
Over here there are warnings about meds on the package.
What nobody tells you is about the half life of meds.

Some last 18 hours. Bromazepam does.
When causing an accident whilst on those meds you lose your insurance.

Laws diffee per country but worth to look up in individual cases.

I am really anti benzodiazepine for combat PTSDers. Benzos are really nasty, habit forming and of little or no long term therapeutic value. In fact there is a bulk of research that proves Benzos for combat vets actually make PTSD symptoms worse.

whoa! thanks alot sludge. i dont take the quetiapine but once every month or two (on average) i definitely dont like what it does. im going to inquire about he prazosin, too. thanks again
Glad to help. As I re-read that post I left out a lot of the citations I should have put in. Remember that the best way to get the most out of your mental health care provider is to ask questions! Don't give into the very American way of treatment, which is "Here is a paper bag of drugs. Go eat them and let me play golf." Good doctors actually listen to their patient's concerns and address them. Don't fall into the self diagnosis loop though. It is really, really easy to find the answers you want to hear on the web. Use PTSD's paranoia and mistrust as a tool and make those overpaid Docs earn their cash!

The best tactic I have found is to request copies of the journal article the MD has based their treatment regimen on. If they can't do it, find a different Doc.

Well, I must be the one in a millon....I have been taking alprazolam for about 4 years, it's the only thing that works. I have done a lot hours on research and find for me it does stay at my regular dose. (0.50mg X 4 a day 2mg total) I will admit it wanted me to increase the dose at times, but I will not play that game. So when that happened in the passed, I would cut down my dose for a total of 0.25 a day for a week. One time I cut back to 0.50 a day for a week, yes I did not feel as well, but I did ok. After the week was over I went back to the regular dose, things went back to normal. I just told the SOB I would not play it's game, I guess I won. I don't feel it makes my PTSD symptoms worse, but one has to get use to the short term memory, that's a pain in the ass. There are some days my anxiety gets real bad, I will take a full 1.0 mg and maybe take a nap. ;) I read that some people don't seem to deal with the increasing, unknown as to why, but I must one of them......

A friend that was on Xanax, made him feel like shit, told me to try Valium, so I did and it made me sick as shit.....I guessing it's a crap shoot as to what works on who.....I agree with you that Benzos are really nasty, habit forming evil crap, but it works for me (when all the other shit didn't) and at my age it's not a big deal.

That's a lot of work already Sludge. If you think it valuable, why not look into steroids?
The devil's own work for PTSDers.

Steroids top up that already high adrenalin/cortisol level.
Drs seem to ignore this simply because not many are aware of the effect it has.

Asthma inhalers, prednison, arthritis meds, eye drops of a certain type, they can be everywhere.
Small amounts can set off a bad spiral for people with PTSD.

From aggression to suicidal. Whatever the mood at that moment is, steroids can make it nosedive.

Outstanding thread! Thanks for all the input. After this discussion yesterday, I looked up the ingredients...they changed it from ethylene glycol to propylene glycol. Great!, I think. No antifreeze. Ah no, they make brake fluid out of the new stuff. Sludge, the bottles are 10ml. I don't know. I was so sick of checking ashtrays, burn holes, stinky house and Jeep, I lunged at this one.

So, I'm going to keep on vaping, look up some of the juice offered here and try to find healthier chemicals.

Thank you everyone.

I got just what you need to get rid of the stinky house and Jeep. I have been using this for a few years and it works.
It's called Smoke Odor Eliminator, it's made by Zep Commercial. You can buy it ay Lowe's for about $5 bucks a can. It Neutralizes Cigarette, Pet and Food odors.

When I use it I start in the back part of the house and spray a good amount up at the ceiling (light fog) you can put some extra on drapes and furinture. If the room has a door close it. Keep spraying as you move to your front door. We cover the fish tank and put our cats in a room with good air and close the door, cover the bottom of the door. You should stay out of the house at least 2 hours. I take it your Jeep is enclosed, so spray in the back, move to the front, close it up. I do our Van and Truck at night so it can set. The next day I spray more in and turn on the AC set to max and let it run about 30 mins. In the winter I run the heater. Since we still smoke, I do this 2 to 3 times a year when the house and cars smell like an ashtray.

When we bought our house 3 years ago we had a piss smell around the master bath toilet, it's carpet. So I sprayed around the toilet about 2' a tad wet and closed the door for a few hours. The piss smell is totally gone and I only sprayed it the one time.

So sarge your are vaping about what I am, roughly 18-20mg/ml. Yup, all the cape juicers in the US did away with using EG with vegetable glycerine. Now they use the PG which does the same thing, but when exposed to light and certain temperatures, particularly with wattage regulated high temp vapes, you are still getting ethylene glycol vapor. The amount is small though and literally nothing a beer can't fix.

I found I like the PG free juice better however. That "throat hit" bullshit they use as a selling point is actually a burn caused by the glycol vapors both EG and PG.

I use a dual bottom coil tank that I modified to have six carb holes and an improved draw. I also installed a fuse and replaced all the stupid silicone seals with proper BUNA seals. Today I am going to solder in heavier gauge wire and a Zener bleed diode to extend my Smok ARO winder wattage stability rating. I also cut a lab grade borosilicate tank cylinder for my Terminator tank to increase capacity to 12ml.

I like vaping almost as much as tinkering, so this is has become a really enjoyable hobby.

Christ! You're at warp speed while I'm back here trying to get out of first. Been reading the web boards about the very things you're already doing. I'm going to make this dang thing work, plus the cost savings from smoking. Cool thread, great info.

Need you help Mr Wizard. I know nothing about vaping!!!! So here are some questions I am sure you know the answers to.

Not sure if I want to spend the money for an Ego Starter Kit, with the Proposed FDA Regulations on E-Cigarettes wich are due out this month!!! Depending the outcome, we may not be able to buy what we need....

Next I have been looking a Ego Starter Kits (2 anyway)

What is the best battery section size, 400 mAh or 650 mAh? I am guessing bigger is better!

Nicotine level 30ml Bottle 24 mg/ml - XHigh Nicotine (Link Removed) my body is use to high amounts. (2 -3 packs a day) is this a good pick for amount of Nicotine?

This is the first kit I liked, but remember I dumb as a rock on this.

Seems more expensive and you need to buy extra stuff. (n)(n)(n)

Thinking of vaping full time....

Thanks

ODG: of the two choices i would go with the Halo tank-style, as that particular setup (tank thread diameter, etc) is very popular. Tankless setups (like the V2) are more time consuming to fill and usually have inferior capacity. Stay away from cheap clones as they wont hold a charge. eGo is what i use and theyre ok for being made in china: Batteries dont last very long (1 month of "heavy" use). There are many brands that are made in USA/UK/Europe but youre looking at more $$. After getting used to vaping you are going to want more vapor. The more vapor the better! So try to get the highest mAh rating. The eGos go up to 900mAh i think....the higher the mAh the quicker the discharge (bigger hits). Atleast i think thats how it works........ eGo also sells a battery with a detachable USB cable you can plug into computer, car.

As for nicotine levels, skip that high concentration stuff. You are a heavy smoker right? The average range for a full flavor cigarette is 17-22 ml/ml concentration. By buying that high concentration stuff you are actually increasing your nicotine addiction and putting yourself in severe risk for nicotine poisoning.

As for pricing, it depends on where you live and where you buy. I cant make any suggestions there except if you are new to vaping don't spend a shit tonne of cash. The secret the vape companies like Smok don't want you to know is that all of the units are made in the same three factories in china...even the ones that claim they are made in the USA/UK/Outer Ozzywandia. All the circuits and shit are interchangeable and compatible, dependent only on the machine thread used on the fittings. Just like microscopes, TVs and microchip processors and LED screens...

As for battery size, it depends on usage, coil type and tank style. I highly suggest you get a variable voltage/wattage type battery. Some times you want a big hit, other times you just want to sip away. Most, if not all of the vapes are 4.2 volt circuits, so all those milliamp hour ratings just indicate how often you need to recharge.

The real area I suggest you review is coil and wick combinations. I do not know why they sell top coil vapes. They are shit, wear out fast and are not rebuild-able. They also use longer wicks and are prone to leakage that will short out the control circuits in your battery. Bottom coil units are superior, the last longer, and use significantly less wicking material.

As for the FDA regs, I wouldn't sweat them too much. Its the FDA for Christ's sake. All you will see is a price increase and proper labelling. Right now, I personally support that completely . There are far too many f*cking morons in this country that are ruining a good thing for the rest of us. For instance, I challenge any of you to list every single ingredient in your juice. The only reason I can do it is because I drove down to Lincoln and harrased the maker of the juice I use. turns out they don't even have a real chemist on staff. I feel safe in betting that is the norm.
Like any new fad product lots of claims and promises are made and rarely are they backed up by valid facts. Case in point is the claim e-cigs are not tobacco. This is complete and utter bullshit. The cheapest and best source for nicotine is tobacco. Period. It is dangerous and toxic to synthesize, and is far too expensive to do so.

Truth be told, I'll predict right now that in a year or so it will be released that vapes and e-cigs are just as bad if not worse than more traditional tobacco products. In fact I feel confident in stating e-cigs are the worst of the lot and vapes are the least just because of the way the nicotine is delivered.

Another issue everyone ignores is the heating coils themselves. Guess what they are made from? If you use a brand that has nichrome coils, you are giving yourself a dose of chromium and nickle with every hit. Both metals are toxic. If you use a kanthanl stainless coil like I do, you are getting mildly radioactive and highly toxic cobalt in every hit, along with sulfur, aluminum, copper and a range of other metals.

Well enough of that ranting, I guess what I am trying to say is nothing is ever what it seems, and profiteers are always out to make a buck off their customers. In other words, the buyer should always beware.

Sludge, wondered if you have any opinions on Effexor and prazosin? I've been through my fair share of cocktails, but this one is new.
