Somatic Experiencing Therapy And Where To Get It

Hi everyone,

I have complex ptsd after a lifetime of abuse from birth with no 'before'.

I want to try somatic experiencing but cant find a therapist north of London!!

Does anyone know of a therapist in the North?

How does anyone fund therapy - if complex ptsd leaves you unable to work and earn how do you then pay for therapy?

best wishes x

It's not very far North of London, but there is the Body Psychotherapy Centre in Cambridge http://www.cbpc.org.uk

I've spoken with them, but not pursued it any further. They were able to suggest therapists working outside Cambridge.

Thanks for the reply, but I really need somewhere that I can drive to from Yorkshire. Wishing you all the best though if you decide to go to the Cambridge one x

I too have PTSD )Complex Trauma) from birth. I am lucky to have a funded psychotherapy team assigned to me where I live (Funded from the UK Military)

I can't help or advise better than @stenni has already advised

Sending a  from Devon if you accept it.

Laurie

I've just done a bit of searching and found one chap whois a member of the Chiron Association of Body Psychotherapy, in York. I know nothing about him or the organisation

Thank you so much everyone,

I've done the search at the Peter Levine site many times and it leads to therapists in London Brighton and Hove.

I've looked at the Sheffield link and can't find anyone listed actually in Sheffield who does somatic therapy.

Re the York one - I can't see a male therapist - sorry should have mentioned that before.

It's so frustrating - I have been looking for months now.

I'm having my 20 sessions with a therapist through the NHS and we have agreed that my condition is so severe that it is too dangerous to embark on actual therapy in such a brief time and that we will try to list some of my experiences and put a case together for funding for specialized treatment - but I am not holding my breath...

I think the closest to Yorkshire on that site was in Derbyshire. I don't know what part of Yorkshire you're in, it's a big place with lots of borders ;) My thinking was find the closest on one of those sites and email them asking if they have any contact details of therapists closer to you. Still a long shot, but maybe worth trying if you're set on that as the therapy you want.

Go for it! Most NHS providers state that where services are needed that they can't provide, then they will buy in. Holding them to that is another matter, but you have a huge advantage in having one of their own therapists agreeing this is what you need. Please let us know how you get on, and what support we can offer you.
