S'pose This Is Where I Introduce Myself

Welcome ArtyMan

I'm new also but a very old ptsd soul. Just take little bites, ya ain't gotta cut the top of your head open and dump out the contents for all to see. given the nature of the disorder (memory) it's gonna hang around forever anyway. best you can work towards is what works for you and what improves the quality of life. This is a good ptsd site. And the folks who post seem straight up to me. Lots of stuff for you to compare to your own situation. You are fortunate to be here, most veteran sites put up an obligatory ptsd forum. You then are at the mercy of those that don't believe and a lot that really are nothing more than toysoldiers who never walked in a warzone. You aint got anything to prove here. It is what it is!!

Welcome Lost Artilleryman (is that War of the Worlds?). No etiquette here, mate. Just common sense. Like the others have said, have a read, lots of relevant stuff here.

May Your Higher Powers Bless You All! To think last week I was on an acute psych ward. I feel good today. Thanks everyone I have interacted with here . . . .

Mate, your welcome, but give yourself some credit too. You have made my cogs start turning with some good stuff. I thank you....

We all have to remember, we are not alone..

Hey ArtyMan

Can't add much to what everyone has already said. Welcome to the 'group'. Here you don't have to worry about a thing. Post what you feel, think or whatever. It's all OK. Every step is a step in the right direction, don't worry about how you'll get there. Make the most of what's available from the VA, they have some good programs for PTSD.

I'm involved in one now and although it's a bit rough right now, I know it'll get better. Be good to yourself, you deserve it.

JarHed

P.S. You may feel lost, but now you're found. Never loose hope.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Hopefully this will be a "foot in the door" for me to get comfortable enough to enroll in some sort of group at the VA.

Hey ArtyMan

The VA also has individual counseling where you would start with just you and a psychologist. It may be an easier situation for you in the beginning for therapy. They would assign one to you. The only thing that I would suggest is that you feel OK with the person that you're talking with. If for some reason you don't you can always request another one. It doesn't have to be another vet or even someone that's been in combat. I feel fortunate that I got the counselor that I have, she's great. She listens to everything I say, then we talk about those things and she make me work at it. It's like many things, I just lucked out with her. Hope you get the same. Just knowing that you need help is the first great step in getting better.

Jar, you're a fortunate man. Welcome Arty! There are also Vet Centers all across the country that offer one on one and group sessions, all with Vet Councilors that have been in combat themselves. Some also offer sessions for wives as well.

Jar, you're a fortunate man

Thanks Sarg,

I do actually try to remind myself of that as it applies to many things. As far as counseling goes, yes it's just serendipity. I've been lucky in my life when I needed a mentor, teacher or guide, as it were, I always seem to meet a good one and the one I need at the moment. Some days I can actually see that there are some good parts to my life. Thanks for the reminder. :)
