I keep what I call my "sleepy music" playing on low all night. The key is that I have to strain to hear it, which means I'm actively tuning my ears (and brain) to the sleep induction tones hidden in the music.
I've been using it for years, so when I hear the familiar tunes, my body knows it's time for sleep. It's great for some of the times I wake up, it can help me fall asleep again.
Other times I have to find other ways to reassure my mind that I'm safe - tour the house or just read/write until my body settles again.
