Still Can't Shake It

Hi Drum,

I haven't been here very long either. I hope you can stay for awhile and feel some healing going on. There's an awfully good, succinct article that spells out why it's helpful to be here. I think it's still on the home page, so it would be really comforting to you at this point to maybe go scope it out. I know with this dam thing, we tend to be disorganized in our thinking and reading things with finite facts presented in an organized article just plain helps. I'm not sure why, but it's also extremelyyyy comforting.

I think here in the forum you probably won't find anyone 'telling' you how to live with this, because really noone can actually acheive that. There are people in various processes of healing, and some who have their PTSD very, very well managed. certainly you'll get some specific advice, huge amounts of information, tons of support and endless compassion. It can be triggering even loggin on, much less posting, much less even reading replies to your posts, but so worth it. I hope you can manage to find the energy to stay.

Having said that, one thing I am able to 'tell' you is that if you can get to therapy it's the best thing to do for yourself. You do sound very bright, so if you can't manage to get there for whatever reason, processing the tools here really is going to help an awful lot. Being here and knowing you're just not ALONE is healing in itself.

I hope you are having some peace with this today, and take care,

Anni

Anni,

That was kind of you to say.
Have been to two therapist's long enough to hear that i had this thing and there was no getting rid of it.
As with every thing else the cost became an issue and i can no longer afford to go to see her.
Thus I'm here looking for some peace and an understanding of my situation

It has been brought up many times by many people here that PTSD can make you feel like you need to hurry up and get better.
O
Really? That is so interesting So...my frustration with myself for NOT being better and wishing I could have a "normal" life...that's a symptom too?

I think of it as like losing a foot. It can work, but I have to do the right things. There are advantages and disadvantages.

You can look at the ways that you already are working things out. Nothing is 100% one way or another. How are you functioning well? In what parts? Think about what works for you. Try to develop habits of doing more of that. It's a thought.

Welcome to the forum Drum. You have been given some wonderful advice here and as you look around the forum you will find tons more. It was a lifesaver for me when I joined and still is. Acceptance is a wonderful start and was the biggest step towards me living a better life with my ptsd. Once my doctor described it to me, just like how Johnny did about loosing a foot, it made sense. It was like a light bulb turned on and things just started turning around in my head and my life. Lots of other things were going on at the same time also, including working on connecting with my inner child and developing a relationship with God. It all came together and helped.

I hope you find this forum as helpful as so many of us have :)
