Sufferer Or Shirker?

I have Fibromyalgia and I've had a doctor tell me that it's a garbage pail diagnosis and he didn't believe it was even a condition/disease..... Ok so he was an asshole!!!!!

to be understood and treated properly...
Having dusted myself off from the spray that we all just got (with the benefit of hindsight I still think that my post was on topic...!?); in case you do feel like coming back (because you're very welcome here, although I can hear that you're not feeling it at the moment):

This comment sticks out at me. A lot. Haven't you just done exactly that to those of us that did actually respond on topic..??

Just thoughts, nothing more:bag:

@She Cat-your dr does sound like an A hole. I have fibro too, but one of the things about this diagnosis and many others, is that is is diagnosed by ruling out all other possibilities. So some have been diagnosed with fibro, then tested positive for Lymes, Lupus, or many others. Then drs pretty much back track and think you do not have the original diagnosis.

I don't know how this might apply to ptsd, but it does apply to ADHD a lot. Diagnosing people only see kids in office setting. The practitioner often fails to ask hard questions about abuse (experiencing or witnessing), many kids that witness DV in the home act out with ADHD symptoms. Even if they do ask, many parents do not say "ya my husband and I scream at each other every night, one of us gets drunk and punches doors, and threats of divorce are common for all the kids to hear.)

Any dr that says it is garbage pail and not real lacks some serious skills to deal with patients.

@brat17 He has mellowed with age. I've been seeing him for almost 30 yrs, and he finally did diagnose me with Fibro about 15 yrs ago. He has since been through a very scary case of cancer and has really mellowed and become very humble. I actually like him very much. I had a double stranded DNA test about 15 yrs ago to see if I did have Lupus. I tested negative. My sister has Sjogrens, and one of my Dr "thinks" I could have it too. I'm not going down that road right now. Too many other things to worry about.

It's scary how the medical profession is so quick to dismiss people, think that we are weirdos, or just plain call us liars. I have been triggered by medical professionals before, but will not allow them to treat me like an idiot. That's just me though, I'm a BITCH!!!!

I feel like one of the lucky ones in that my dr, over 25 yrs ago, diagnosed me and never made me feel like it was a false illness. As a matter of fact, he was very validating. Just a few yrs ago, Sjogrens has been considered , not ruled out but not sure. I am treated for symptoms. Every sister has an auto immune disease except me so far. I am glad your dr has mellowed and better now.

Sad it's that way

Sure is! I live in the pain pill State and it was horrifcally hard to find a good pain Dr, and to be believed that I didnt want to just get high. Though shown in an MRI, it still hard to make a Dr believe you wont abuse pain pills in a State were most do or sell the ones they dont need.

Its so wide spread that the every day dad across the street was selling it to my step mom when I lived with them in their house!

We have a huge heroin problem here from the new pain pill regulations. They can't get the oxycodone anymore so they went to meth and heroin. It's a freaking mess.

My area is bad too with heroine as a result of pain meds taken away.
That has probably made drs very skeptical, but they do have access to pill seekers over different states and ways to track.
The amount of overdoses is horrible around me.
