Symphony's, Ballets And Musicals.

It's getting closer to Christmas so that means the Christmas symphony's and the amazing ballet The Nutcracker is coming out.

I love the symphony and the ballet. I remember I was maybe somewhere between 10 or 12 years old and my mother took me to The Nutcracker. I still remember parts of it...It was beautiful and amazing even though I was young and didn't understand most of it. I still knew it was special.

I am promising myself that this year I am going to the see The Nutcracker again. I am already looking into tickets.

On Thursday Husband and I are going to the symphony. We are seeing Beethoven's symphony #3. I don't know a huge amount about all the symphony's by all the composers but I just love to be there. To me the symphony...it's something that needs to be experienced to understand. It's really something you don't forget.

There is a Haydn & Strauss symphony in late February I would like to see as well. Joesph Haydn was good friend of Mozart and Beethoven's teacher...without Haydn, who knows what would have happened so I really want to see a symphony written by the guy who started it all.

Anyone else like these things?

Oh yes, Ayesha, I absolutely love formal theatre! I love classical performances, ballet, dance, etc. It is such a pleasure to be among a quiet, civilized audience and get absolutely lost in and emotionally engaged with the performances. I go far too rarely, but love it when I do. I have promised myself a trip to a local Shakespeare festival next year to have time to get lost in the peaceful eloquence of the playwrights (Shakespeare and others are featured.) I am eagerly awaiting the year (perhaps next year) that I take my daughter to see the elaborate production of the Nutcracker here at our excellent Seattle Ballet, done with staging by Maurice Sendak. These are wonderful holiday traditions.

Honestly, reading your post has made me hunger for more instrumental performances, I'm going to have to check my local listings! Thank you.

I took my daughter to see the Nutcracker when she was 3. She was extremely patient for 3 but I did not think she would sit through all of it. I had never been to see it. I can remember it like it was yesterday, and she is now 25. She had on a little red wool coat with a black velvet collar and cuffs and was all dressed up for the occasion. She was mezmerized. She watched intensely. At intermission, she said "mommy, I want to dance like that and be in the Nutcracker". The next fall, she started ballet and she danced with the Russian Ballet in the Nutcracker 2 times in grade school. The ballet would come to town and have try outs for little parts for the kids, like snowflakes and mice. She was a mouse and I have a big picture in her scrapbook from the local newspaper.

She still loves all of the arts. A couple years ago we went to see Wicked. That is an awesome play. I have seen it twice. Would love to see it on Broadway if I ever had the chance.

Wow, that is cool and something I can very much relate to. When I was in 5th grade I was in a presentation. *chest pump* That's right, Toy Soldier #3 for the win. I gave up my acting desires shortly after, and turned to writing. :)

That is cool too. My daughter gave dancing up in high school and then went into theatre, and with all the drama, went on to law school and now is a practicing attorney. Still performing!

I love The Nutcracker. I saw it with all my cousins when I was little. The music is still as thrilling as it was then. Two years ago, I bought a little Nutcracker theater that has revolving scenes from the show and music to match. I love that PTSD can't take the joy of things like this away from us.

It really is. I love that I know nothing will shock me to badly. A football game for example, there are just to many anxiety moments. With the symphony, people are quiet and polite. They dress nice and it's formal. Velvet, valets, marble, wine (though I don't drink any), gowns, suits, attendants at every corner. It's wonderful.

That reminds me that I need to find something formal for the occasion. I have the pants (though I would rather wear a skirt) and I have some nice shoes. I just need a top. I am unsure if I can afford that right now though. It's not a big deal...I know symphony are more relaxed now a days but getting dressed up is part of the experience in my mind.

I found something! I looked in my closet and remembered I had a teal-bluish real pashmia scarf and yesterday I bought a teal shirt. Paired it with a black military style blazer I have. It wont be as formal as I want it too be but it will look nice and fit nice. Really happy about that. Really happy. I just need to wash the blazer and clean it up. I asked husband if his outfit is already and he insists that it is.

I am not even sure if he likes the symphony. He has never been to the ballet. But when I talk about it going, he never argues with me. So I wonder if he likes it or maybe he just sees the look of happiness on my face and puts up with it. :laugh:

I am trying to pick a date for the ballet next month. They have many ballets between the 7th and up to the 22th. We wont be able to buy the tickets until next month. I am thinking the show on Saturday the 21st in the evening would be wonderful. The tickets are expensive. $100 for both of us. But it makes sense, there are so many people involved in the show.

Husband is also taking me out for a nice dinner before the show on Thursday.

I married into a musical family, so the fine arts are in my life. Years ago, for my birthday, my husband bought season tickets to the ballet. That was amazing. My husband and his dad have been in a few orchestra's, but that has died down over the years.

This week my husband is taking my youngest, who plays violin, to see The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses. I'm happy that at least one of my boys enjoys the symphony.

I went to my city's symphony hall today to pick up the tickets. They were supposed to email them but I never got the email so I just decided to pick them up. It was a drive but it was worth it. I have never really seen it in the daylight before.

It was so beautiful and so huge!

Wow Ayesha! I always wanted to go and see the ballet or an Opera. I have watched bot on TV but it is not the same as the theatre.

Numerous Gilbert and Sullivan's
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Phantom
Les Miserable and...
Spamalot!

I love them all! I like most classical music and my favourite piece is the intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. It was my Dad's favourite and always brings a tears to my eyes.
