You taking a shot against Loadmasters, or something else?Sarg
Sarge, Having traveled the world and having been bailed out of some hairy situations by Loadmasters, I would never make a disparaging comment about them. ;)

Without the loadies and Providers and Hercules ships, I would have starved and a whole lot of guys would have died. My hat's off to all of them.

Yeah, but those C-123 Providers are the source of some AO claims subsequent to the war. The Air Force kept them flying with AO soaked into every crevasse and aircrew started coming down with AO related diseases. As soon as they filed claims, the AirForce started destroying all the Providers. All but a few they stupidly wrapped in plastic and put out in the desert down in Tucson. The EPA tested them and found them to be saturated in Dioxin.

So, the legacy lives on!

Providers and Caribou (especially the latter) were favorites of SF guys. I don't know why. Caribou seemed cramped to me.

I love the Caribou. It could take off in 200 m if it had a head wind. Those Kerosene motors.
If the wind was too strong it almost flew backwards.

We only just de-commissioned them.

I jumped out of Caribou's and I am really kiddin' about them. That whole genre of aircraft was more fun than the big jets. I like to hear propellers for some reason. Makes me feel "safe." (Now there is a thigh slapper....)

I like the Caribou. Scary how loaded up they could be and still take off. (Smooth flight though....)

Agreed, tough, tough aircraft. Seen em' land in areas that looked more like LZs than airstrips.

This little lady was equally impressive in STOL. So much so the US outlawed them stateside but some of the more "shady" outfits used them extensively in their operations.....
